It’s…Sunday Song Study!

Before the pandemic, I would devote Sundays to studying my music, and focus on one song in particular. Today I’m focusing on one of the most well-known piano pieces, “Für Elise” by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Please note: this is a simplified version found in the Level 2B Performance Book of the Faber Piano Adventures series.

I teach “Für Elise” A LOT, and I love watching students grow as they study, learn, memorize, and perform this piece. Yes — you need to memorize it! Phrasing and artistry come much more naturally after we’ve memorized the notes and rhythms of a piece. In “Für Elise”, the octave jumps in the B section are much easier (and fun!) to play when we’re not fumbling around for notes and wondering what fingers to use.
