The curriculum addresses modern threats and is based on over 20 years of combined martial arts experience with Japanese Jujutsu styles, WWII Combatives, Jeet Kune Do, and Kali.

Sci-fi absolutely lied to us.

I was promised collapsing space guns, infinite ammunition and lasers. Instead, we’ve settled on something that legitimately came out of the 90s.

Look at a URGI next to an HK416. The 416 uses a short-stroke piston instead of the AR’s internal gas system, sure, but the fundamental architecture is still Eugene Stoner.

The Marine Corps basically admitted this with the M27. What did the “next generation” infantry rifle actually give you? A quality free-floated handguard, good barrel, full-auto capability wrapped around an AR-pattern rifle.

TBH I think this is where rifles are going to stay for a very, very long time.

People will continue screaming about optimization via the different characteristics, like barrel length, gas systems etc. Materials will improve. Barrels will last longer. Bolts will get stronger. Ammunition will get better.

But the actual gun? It’s just gonna be this.

The interesting advances now are increasingly happening ON the rifle rather than inside it: optics, thermal overlays, integrated rangefinding, fire-control systems, lasers, suppressors, networking etc.

So congratulations. We made it to the future, I guess. Your Mœn Marine is carrying an M4 with a really fu***ng güd optic.

And it better be, them Mœn spydärs move fast af.
