Genesee Lake School provides residential, educational, vocational and day programming for children,

Genesee Lake School provides residential, educational, vocational, and day programming for children, adolescents and young adults who are dually diagnosed with emotional disturbances and developmental disabilities. Genesee Lake School has expertise in the treatment of a variety of low-incidence syndromes and specific expertise in serving children and young adults with autism and autism spectrum disorders. Genesee Lake School pursues a single goal: to prepare students to return to their home school and succeed in that environment. We serve students from ages 4 to 21 who have behavioral, social, emotional and academic needs, including but not limited to:

School Phobia/Avoidance

🌾 Celebrating National Farm to School Month at Genesee Lake School! 🍎

October is always a special month at Genesee Lake School as we celebrate National Farm to School Month! This week was filled with fun, hands-on activities and special experiences for our students.

🍽️ Tuesday: Harvest Lunch
We kicked off the week with a special Harvest Lunch featuring ingredients from the farm incorporated into a delicious meal of stromboli, mashed potatoes, garden salad, and chocolate beet cake!

🎃 Thursday: Farm Fun Day
Students enjoyed a variety of fall-themed activities, including scarecrow making, storytelling, vegetable art, Big Apple Crunch sampling, hayrides, and fall-scented sensory play dough.

🐄 Friday: Where Does Our Milk Come From?
Friday brought an extra-special experience as students learned where their milk comes from! They had the opportunity to meet Popcorn the cow, pet her, feed her, and even try milking her. The biggest surprise was her adorable little calf, who was born just last week!

A HUGE thank-you to all the staff who worked so hard to make this week possible! The dedication and creativity our employees bring to making these experiences meaningful and memorable for our students are truly amazing. ❤️

We also want to extend a special thank-you to Farmer Dale and his helpers, Elle, Eddie, and Laila, from Stangler Farms for bringing Popcorn and her new calf to visit us today. What a wonderful way to wrap up an incredible week!

Our Owner Experience committee organized a celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Staff enjoyed a meal from Marisol’s Taste of Mexico Food Truck and played Loteria.

Yesterday, Genesee Lake School welcomed students, staff, caregivers, districts, and community partners for our annual End of Summer Celebration. The day kicked off with a cookout and campus-wide fun, including a Meet the Goats photo opportunity, live butterfly tent, yard games, a bounce house, water slide (a huge hit in the hot weather!), mini golf, BINGO, art projects, music by DJ Cody, and face painting/hair coloring!
Guests also enjoyed farm tours at Home Grown Farms throughout the afternoon, munching on veggies grown right at the farm and delicious frozen treats from our very own ice cream truck, designed by our maintenance team!
Caregivers connected with teachers during our School Open House to find out everything they need to know about the new school year.

We're proud to spotlight Chris Naylor, Student Services Coordinator at Genesee Lake School (GLS), a MyPath Company.

Since joining GLS in 1987, Chris has grown through a variety of roles—from direct care staff and special education teacher to education coordinator and now a member of the school's leadership team. Her career reflects a passion for continuous growth and a deep commitment to supporting others.

Today, Chris leads efforts in hiring, onboarding, staff development, and student admissions, helping build a school culture where people feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.

"Every day is different. Problem solving, planning, networking, coordinating schedules, and supporting people keeps the work dynamic. I value helping create an environment where staff and students feel challenged and encouraged to do their best."

Chris's nearly 40-year journey is a powerful reminder that meaningful careers are built on purpose, opportunity, and a commitment to making a difference.

MyPath is thrilled to be joining the Outdoors Alliance for Kids in their efforts to get One Million Kids Outdoors this year!

We know that being outdoors is crucial for physical and mental health, and this initiative aligns completely with our goal of ensuring that students at Genesee Lake School, T.C. Harris School & Academy, and The Richardson School can access nature and the benefits it brings.

As part of our ongoing employee spotlight series, we're proud to recognize Josh Westermeyer, Transition Coordinator at Genesee Lake School (GLS), a MyPath Company.

Since joining GLS in 2008, Josh has served in a variety of roles—from Direct Support Professional and Instructional Aide to Job Coach, Vocational Coordinator, and now Transition Coordinator. Each role has strengthened his commitment to helping students prepare for life beyond the classroom.

Josh is passionate about empowering students to build confidence, explore career opportunities, and take meaningful steps toward their future. Through hands-on work experiences, career exploration, and individualized support, he helps students discover their strengths and envision what's possible after high school.

As Josh shares, one of the most rewarding parts of his work is watching students gain confidence and become excited about the goals they're working toward.
