Genesee Lake School provides residential, educational, vocational, and day programming for children, adolescents and young adults who are dually diagnosed with emotional disturbances and developmental disabilities. Genesee Lake School has expertise in the treatment of a variety of low-incidence syndromes and specific expertise in serving children and young adults with autism and autism spectrum di

sorders. Genesee Lake School pursues a single goal: to prepare students to return to their home school and succeed in that environment. We serve students from ages 4 to 21 who have behavioral, social, emotional and academic needs, including but not limited to:

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
School Phobia/Avoidance
Depression
Bi-Polar Disorder
Traumatic Brain Injuries

Behind every student's success is someone helping them discover what's possible. 💙

As part of our ongoing employee spotlight series, we're proud to recognize Josh Westermeyer, Transition Coordinator at Genesee Lake School (GLS), a MyPath Company.

Since joining GLS in 2008, Josh has served in a variety of roles—from Direct Support Professional and Instructional Aide to Job Coach, Vocational Coordinator, and now Transition Coordinator. Each role has strengthened his commitment to helping students prepare for life beyond the classroom.

Josh is passionate about empowering students to build confidence, explore career opportunities, and take meaningful steps toward their future. Through hands-on work experiences, career exploration, and individualized support, he helps students discover their strengths and envision what's possible after high school.

As Josh shares, one of the most rewarding parts of his work is watching students gain confidence and become excited about the goals they're working toward.

Each student’s journey has been filled with hard work, determination, personal growth, and meaningful relationships. Whether they’re moving on to a transition program, returning to their home school or day programming, or stepping into new job opportunities or living environments, every graduate has followed a unique path to get here.

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Mikaela Gnewikow, who has served as a nurse at Genesee Lake School, a MyPath Company, since 2019.

Mikaela plays an important role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of students while helping create an environment where they can learn, grow, and succeed. Her compassion, dedication, and commitment to caring for others make a meaningful impact on our school community every day.
