Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund The Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund helps bridge the financial gap for area student's college dreams.

The Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund is a community-based, non-profit organization 501(c)(3) whose purpose is to encourage post high-school study by Oconomowoc area students. Any student who is a resident of the Oconomowoc Area School District is eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded annually to students planning four years of undergraduate study or to students planning a two-year program at a te

chnical college. Funding for scholarships relies on general public contributions and seeks support via fund raising activities and in general solicitations in the community. Criteria considered in selection process include academic achievement, citizenship, career goals, and general appearance of the application.

Thanks to your generosity, the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund continues turning potential into possibility. This year, we're thrilled to support seven students on their four-year degree journey solely through community donations.

Molly Schmidt, daughter of Mark and Loren Schmidt of Oconomowoc, is one of the 2026 graduates who has been awarded a $12,000 scholarship from the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund as she pursues a degree in neurobiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. A dedicated scholar-athlete, Molly has been a member of the OHS varsity swim team for the past four years and currently serves as captain of the Western Lakes Girls Swim Team. She also shares her love of swimming as an instructor with British Swim School.

Outside of the pool, Molly has distinguished herself academically as a member of both the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. As a leader in the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, she spearheaded the club’s effort to create a museum exhibit at the Oconomowoc Historical Society during Homecoming week. When she is not studying, swimming, or leading service projects, you can often find Molly serving ice cream at Mullins Dairy Bar.

Proud to announce one more of this year's amazing scholars! 🌟

Lana Pokorny, daughter of Mark and Jessica Pokorny of Oconomowoc, has been awarded a $12,000 scholarship from the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund as she pursues a degree in biology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Lana discovered a passion for the field that would shape her future academic goals during her freshman year. She became an active member of HOSA, a student-led organization for future health professionals, and gained valuable experience volunteering at Aurora Medical Center Summit.

In addition to her interests in science and healthcare, Lana is a member of the National Honor Society, German Honor Society, and Rho Kappa, the honor society for social studies. She has also dedicated her time to serving others as a peer tutor and currently works as a barista at Starbucks.

Lana is a caring individual who actively engages with those around her. As one reference noted, she brings not just intelligence, but also genuine character, making her a valuable asset to any community she joins.

We are deeply honored to present awards this year to seven exceptional students committed to pursuing four-year degrees. Their success is your success. Eliza Mitich of Oconomowoc is another one of these incredible 2026 graduates.

Eliza plans to pursue a degree in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison with the dream of one day becoming a pediatric oncologist. A scholar-athlete and Global Scholar at OHS, Eliza has served as captain of the varsity soccer team for the past two years. Her outstanding academic achievements earned her induction into the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society.

Eliza was also an active member of HOSA, a student-led organization for future health professionals, and DECA, where she served as a room leader for the Adopt-a-Classroom program that provides holiday gifts to children in need. In addition, she became certified through Prevent Blindness Wisconsin to perform vision screenings and volunteered her time conducting vision tests for students at Silver Lake Intermediate School.

The daughter of Suzanne and Gavin Mitich, Eliza has been awarded a $12,000 scholarship from the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund to support her undergraduate education.

For decades, Donna Wojcik was more than a teacher. She was a light in our community. With endless patience and genuine belief in every child, she showed us all what it means to nurture minds and chase dreams.

OSF proudly honors her legacy with three scholarships named in Donna's memory. These awards go to students who embody her spirit of education and service. Makenna Mill is the third 2026 recipient of this generosity through a four-year, $12,000 scholarship to support her studies in public relations at Illinois State University.

A trailblazer in her community, Makenna made history as the first female team manager for both the OHS varsity football and JV baseball teams, where she played a pivotal role in supporting coaches and managing team functions. Her journey took a defining turn at age fourteen when a football gift from her mother, Robin Mill of Oconomowoc, sparked a lifelong passion for sports, steering her toward a future career in the NFL.

Beyond the field, Makenna is a dedicated participant in Student Council, the Photography Club, the National Art Honor Society, and the German Sisters City Exchange Program. As a focused first-generation college student, she combines creative talent with academic rigor, committing to every endeavor with genuine care and full focus. Her amazing attitude and drive make her a standout candidate ready to make her mark.

When a community rallies behind its students, magic happens.

The Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund proves it: your support removes barriers and makes education accessible. We celebrate seven outstanding students moving on to four-year programs because you chose to believe in them.

One of these students, Max Meissner, will pursue a degree in biology at Bethel University this fall with the support of a $12,000 scholarship from the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund.

A member of the Science National Honor Society, Max excelled as captain of the varsity cross-country team and as a promoted head waiter at Rockwell's where he is praised for his reliability and leadership. His dedication to service extends to White Stone Community Church where he leads small groups, serves on the tech team, and plays the cajon in the worship band. Notably, Max demonstrated profound compassion during a 2024 mission trip to Jamaica, caring for children at an orphanage and organizing a Vacation Bible School.

Max is a confident young man who loves others and embraces new experiences. His blend of academic promise, athletic discipline, and selfless service makes him a standout recipient. His parents, Jamie and Darryl Meissner of Ixonia, are undoubtedly very proud.

The Steve Lyles Scholarship honors a journalist and community leader who loved local sports and supporting students. Steve spent 20 years officiating basketball and editing the Oconomowoc Focus, always walking the streets to connect with our community.

His legacy continues through Maya Knudsen. Maya has been awarded the four-year, $12,000 Steve Lyles Scholarship to support her studies in computer science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Defined by immense initiative and self-motivation, Maya has consistently sought challenges beyond the classroom, advancing from OHS AP Computer Science courses to technical college classes through the Start College Now program. The daughter of Kristin Hribar of Oconomowoc and the late Mark Knudsen has inspired younger students while balancing leadership roles in the Computer Science Honor Society, the Tutoring Coordinator for the Math Honor Society and as a State Qualifier in FBLA.

Maya’s dedication to excellence extends to the track field as a varsity throws competitor, the Math Team, Robotics Team, and other activities, while also serving her faith community as a Youth Group Leader at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Whether diving deep into the complexities of Formula One or coordinating community service events, Maya approaches every endeavor with a rare blend of curiosity and discipline. Her ability to progress herself and lift her classmates ensures she will be a transformative force in the field of technology.

Hailey Kiedrowski is one of seven 2026 graduates we're proud to present four-year $12,000 scholarships to.

Hailey, the daughter of Joe and Julie Kiedrowski, will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology to study nuclear engineering. Her goal is to help develop safer, more efficient reactors and contribute to solving the world’s growing energy and climate challenges.

Over the past four years, Hailey has distinguished herself through the rigorous coursework she completed at OHS and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She has also demonstrated strong leadership as a member of both the math club and robotics team and through her participation in the NASA TechRise Student Challenge. Hailey is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and the English, Science, and Computer Science Honor Societies. She is also recognized as a Global Scholar.

Outside the classroom, Hailey can often be found behind the counter at two local favorites, working as a barista at Starbucks and Bottom Line Bakeshop and Cafe.

Donna Wojcik's memory will support another incredible student through a $12,000 4-year scholarship awarded to Angelina Gonzalez. Angelina will be pursuing psychology at the College of Charleston.

The daughter of Katherine and Jacob Rummler of Oconomowoc is guided by a strong faith and a profound capacity for empathy. Angelina transforms her past challenges into a driving passion for helping others. As Vice President of OHS Student Council and a Founder of the Jesus Club, she balances rigorous IB and AP coursework with extensive service, including an internship at Rogers Behavioral Health and volunteer work at St. Paul's Church. Her dependability and genuine nature shine through in her roles as a LINK Leader, member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies, and participant in the Game Day Squad and Pickleball Club.

Angelina approaches every task - from organizing school-wide events to mentoring younger students - with enthusiasm, kindness, and a rare level of maturity. Her sincere love and commitment to making a positive impact are consistently evident throughout all her activities.

For decades, Donna Wojcik was more than just a teacher; she was a beacon of hope for countless families in our district. She possessed a rare gift for connecting with children, believing deeply that every mind deserved to be nurtured and every dream was worth chasing. She ignited curiosity and fostered growth with unwavering patience. Her legacy lives on through three scholarships this year.

Luke Belawski has set his sights on a career in law enforcement and is already taking meaningful steps toward achieving that goal. For the past two years, he has been a member of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department Cadet Post 6700 where he earned the rank of Captain.

Through this hands-on experience, Luke has assisted with law enforcement training, volunteered at community and public events, supported event operations, and represented the Sheriff’s Department positively and professionally. He has also worked closely with deputies and fellow cadets to promote public safety and community engagement.

In addition, Luke has completed the first semester of WCTC’s Dual Enrollment Academy with an emphasis in Criminal Justice Studies, earning a 4.0 GPA. He is also a member of WCTC’s Criminal Justice Club, the OHS varsity golf team, and St. Jerome Catholic Church.

The son of Stephen and Valerie Belawski, both of Oconomowoc, Luke has been awarded a two-year $3,000 scholarship In Memory of Donna Wojcik through OSF to pursue a degree in criminal justice at Waukesha County Technical College.

After over two decades in Lake Country, Richard and Karen Bertrand have dedicated themselves to paying their blessings forward. Their legacy of generosity toward the Oconomowoc community aims to help students discover careers they truly love. Ava Truchan is one of two scholars to benefit from their foresight.

The daughter of Erik and Jennifer Truchan of Oconomowoc has been awarded the Richard R. and Karen Bertrand Charitable Fund in the amount of $12,000 to support her pursuit of nursing at UW-Milwaukee.

A student of remarkable maturity and self-motivation, Ava distinguished herself through her academic excellence and genuine drive to serve others. As a Certified Nursing Assistant at Shorehaven Senior Living, she has already begun applying her compassion in real-world healthcare settings. Her volunteer work spans Oconomowoc High School, her church, and the "Caring Crew," reflecting her deep commitment to community service. Ava is a member of multiple National Honor Societies, actively participates in HOSA and OHS Student Council, and contributed to the JV2 volleyball team.

Her teachers note her powerful voice, nuanced thinking, and ability to balance perfectionism with collaborative leadership. With poise, dedication, and a passion for healthcare, Ava is well-prepared to make a meaningful impact in the nursing profession.
