One takeaway from these 2+ pandemic school years I wish more people would talk about... This is NOT new, and Kim Herro did her best to introduce parents to this model that promotes both better health and a strong academic foundation.

The School Board will sell the only property in their inventory that could make this happen for OASD kids. No elementary school will have a forest or pond, or space outside an asphalt playground or grassy field.

Outdoor and forest schools are growing in popularity in the United States, doubling between 2017 and 2020, with several in Wisconsin — including a new school in the Kickapoo Valley Forest Reserve.

Whitewater was called out for spending their relief funds on artificial turf. A CO district hired an online learning company that didn't add value.

Some District decisions can be seen as wasteful in hindsight. The money was intended to provide funds to help schools mitigate the impact on disruptions in learning. But, in WI, the GOP instead decided that federal money would be given to districts INSTEAD of any annual increase in state funding.

In effect, districts can't make long term plans in hiring people because they had to plan with zero increase in year over year funding.

In order to plan efficiently AND be fiscally responsible, districts need reliability. Zero increase in per pupil funding or taxation authority does not provide the stability in funding they need to make multi-year plans.

So the only thing that makes fiscal sense is to use the resources for a one time spend.

With students struggling to recover from the pandemic, the nation cannot afford to waste any of the money allocated for education.

They frame every decision with what will best prepare kids for THEIR future.

OASD must pay attention to standardized test scores because that's what the State has decided to measure.

But the OASD strategic plan contains quality measures that are unrelated to test scores because our kids are so much more, and their growth and success depends on so much more.

This poet knows.

Meeting adjourned due to audience non-compliance with masking requirement. Masking is only effective when it's as close to universal as possible.

The CDC and Wauk Co support universal masking as an effective mitigation. OASD operational decisions have not led to that recommended outcome. This is especially apparent on the busses where the District has no discretion to ignore the requirement.

Leadership comes from the top.

The community expects the District to be run in accordance with professional standards for health and safety. Instead, compliance with sanitary standards is optional.

ALL kids deserve a healthy school environment.
