MISSION MONDAY 9/22/2025- GUARDIAN ANGELS

From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have believed that God, in His providence, assigns every person a Guardian Angel. These pure spirits, created solely to love and serve God, participate in His plan of salvation by guiding us toward holiness.

Scripture itself affirms this truth. In Psalm 91 we read: “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Christ Himself tells us in Matthew 18:10 not to despise little ones, “for their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” This reveals that Guardian Angels not only watch over us, but also live in constant communion with God, acting as a bridge between His heavenly glory and our earthly journey.

St. Thomas Aquinas, called the “Angelic Doctor,” taught that each angel is assigned to a person at birth and remains by their side throughout life, offering protection, guidance, and intercession. Their task is not merely to keep us from physical harm, but more importantly, to guard our souls against sin and to encourage us toward virtue.

The Feast of the Guardian Angels (October 2) reminds us that our faith is never a solitary walk. God, in His mercy, surrounds us with a “cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1), and among them are these faithful angels who accompany us unseen.

This week, let us grow in devotion to our Guardian Angels. Call upon them in prayer, ask for their guidance in moments of temptation, and remember that you are never truly alone. Heaven is closer than we think!
