SoCal Beach Soccer Club is a non‐profit, 501(c)(3) organization that teaches, promotes, advocates, and supports the sport of beach soccer

It all started when a youth league soccer coach named Steve Citron brought a team of 12-year-olds to a local beach soccer tournament in Oceanside, California back in the spring of 2013. He and the players just wanted to have some fun and experience this incredible sport at one of the larger venues on the West Coast of the United States, but this was just the beginning of several seasons of fun, ex

Nuno Tavares will be joining us at the U.S. Open in Virginia Beach, Virginia on June 5th through the 7th.

His multi-decade experience playing beach soccer at the highest level, with both his national team and professional clubs, will provide an incredible technical and tactical advantage, as we bring 2 teams to this event.

Nuno has had an amazing beach soccer career and some of his accomplishments include:

Featuring with the Portuguese National Team and winning the bronze medal at the 2009 Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai. From there, he went on to win the European Championship in 2010 and a major international event in Bang Saen, Thailand in 2013, both with his national team. He won another championship at the Coppa Italia in 2013 while playing with Sambenedettese Beach Soccer Club. In addition, Nuno has competed in major US events throughout the past two decades in both Oceanside and Virginia Beach, winning it all at Oceanside’s U.S. Pro Cup in 2012.

His immediate assignment with the club will be to take on the role of player/coach for SoCal Elite’s premiere at the 2026 U.S. Open, which will greatly assist them as they navigate this major tournament for the first time. He will also be providing assistant coaching support for SoCal Legacy, as they make their 6th consecutive appearance at this competition.

Following the U.S. Open, we will be in discussion with Nuno regarding his future role with the club going forward, which could include responsibilities focused on enhancing player development and helping to prepare our two teams for international competitions, such as World and Americas Winners' Cups.

More to follow as we continue to make progress as a club and in helping to create a bright future for beach soccer in America!💪

We had an amazing experience at the 2025 BSWW Americas Winners' Cup in San Salvador last week.

Due to numerous schedule conflicts and a last-minute cancellation, we only had three players from our World Winner's Cup team at this event.

Luckily, we were able to backfill the vacancies with another core team player and several highly talented guest players, allowing us to field a 10-man roster so that we could still attend this incredible competition.

Surprisingly, the team we pulled together did not make it out of the group stage this year (we finished 5th at this event in 2024), but we had a fantastic time. Everyone continued to advance in the sport by participating in this event.

We would like to recognize and thank all of the guest players that helped us pull a team together, we greatly appreciate your support and your efforts. We would not have been able to do this without you!

- Heber Ramos
- Gabe Silveira
- Peter Julmis
- Marcos Manzano
- Michael Butler
- Austin Collier

It is very challenging to start with a fresh team at a competition like this and expect to have all the players generate "instant chemistry" with one another.

We were learning how to play together during the first few matches and, eventually, you could see the team's potential in the 3rd and 4th contest but, unfortunately, by that time it was too late to advance forward.

The team did play better in each successive match, so there was excellent progression.
