November tip: Happy Thanksgiving. Remind your student that Thanksgiving is technically a compound word. Thanks and giving can be used separately as two separate words.

Happy Halloween! Do you know why there is a double 'p' in Happy and a double 'l' in Halloween? If the vowel before the consonant is saying the short sound (or not the sound of it's letter) you will usually double the consonant. This rule is reasonably consistent and will save quite a few spelling errors. Hope your had a good one.

If your student has trouble tracking while reading, try using the book mark 'tracking down.' This means putting the bookmark on top of the line your student is trying to read. More suggestions to come using my multi-sensory structured language method.

Did you know there is overlap in our sound pictures? For example: 'ow' can make the 'ow' sound in cow, but also the 'ow' can make the 'o-e' sound in the word grow.
