Our GYBSD warehouse holds so many memories of amazing people coming in with helping hands, donations, enthusiasm and generous support for what goes out in our volunteers, cars and trucks and delivered to the school offices and into the hands of food insecure kids.
We successfully finished up another year and look at this last delivery with our two volunteers packing up his truck Mike Hartshorn and Jeff Snowden. These retired men stock our shelves and keep the warehouse clean as a whistle week after week and it was there suggestion to deliver the last of the bags for year 16.
It almost made me cry looking at this picture because I see heroes! A hero jumps when there’s an occasion to help. Thats what happens here.
Thanks guys! And Mikes wife Mindy didnt get left out of the fun. She is Mike biggest support for 16 years of him being our warehouse coordinator with all smiles 😁 And Jeff too! These guys are a hoot!
And the guy with the white hair and beard? He’s MY hero! We all need a hero in our lives at one point or another. And I dare to say GYBSD is somewhat of an “imaginary hero” like Santa who cheerfully brings gifts to good little boys and girls. Ho ho ho!

We ended our 16th school year and we were able to give all of our GYBSD kids a beanie baby and shampoo and soap, and toothpaste.
People donated Beanie Babys from all over San Diego County to us. It started with 35 from my friend Julie Manion-Flores, and then others started, dropping them off, including Lisa Hutchinson and Debbi Palmer . Some came from people I dont know but people who obviously wanted to help. And Kelly Schafer from Carlsbad Rotary Club brought 1200 toiletries for all our kids just ours before last night, the last packing night for this school season and are Volunteer Packers were so excited to pack those little Beanie Babys and toiletries!
All in all these kids know they matter.
Catherine and Richard have been a huge blessing this past year of Tuesday nights overseeing and scheduling all the volunteers to cheerfully and prayerfully pack bags of food for kids in need. Thank you! 😊 We sure appreciate your service.
It’s not just the food, it’s the little things we get to do because of so many wonderful like-minded people who go that extra mile to bring a little happiness to a child.

It only cost $36 a month to sponsor a child. How about that for next year?

She may not look like it at first glance, but mess with this U.S. Marine wife and you'd wish you hadn't. Thank you Tina for another great year of food drives for Got Your Back. You and all you teammates fed a lot of kids this school year. We're looking forward to doing it again next year!
