Today is the day set aside to honor those who have given their lives for our country. Please remember that. This is not the day to honor those who survived their service. I mention this because, as with so many other casually thought of holidays, and even casually used phrases, we get them mixed up, and the power, the intention of those phrases and remembrances is lost. There is no doubt in my mind you have recognized some "mistake" in your life you have vowed never to repeat, but then, kabam, here it is again, same mistake. You wonder "did I learn nothing the last time? What kind of fool am I for repeating that mistake?" So many books tell us we must set clear goals to be successful. "Set those goals, make check-lists, don't stop until you achieve the goal." Has this worked for you? For me, not so much. Oh I have tried the goal thing, tried it a lot, but for me, life seems to get in the way. I was never all that comfortable saying things like "when I get to be 29 I will be married with three kids and all the comfort I can handle." Or, "by the time I reach 55 I will have put away enough money to retire to Maui and live a life of leisure." Along the way to age 29 I found my plans kept getting delayed, changing because this happened or that did not happen. [ 203 more words. ]

I am sitting here watching the Super Bowl along with a projected 100 million other people. On the field are two teams each longing to earn the Lombardi trophy. Along the way to this opportunity have been literally thousands of opportunities to give-up, and each team had very good reasons to give- up, but they did not quit. Your goal might not be to play in a Super Bowl, perhaps your dream is to do something no one else might even be aware you did, but it is still your goal, which makes it just as important as playing in an NFL championships, no, let's change that, your goal is even more important, simply because it is YOUR goal, and that is enough. Do we learn to compare ourselves to others, or is it an in-born trait? Perhaps you were told "I wish you were more like your sister", or "look at Johnny, he managed to get his homework in on time." I guess that might lead me to believe somewhere along the line we were trained to identify our value based upon what someone else has done, but I have to wonder if this is one of the tendencies we can leave in the past as we find our own identity. What is impossible? In my world nothing is impossible, it just has perhaps not yet come about. It was once common knowledge that it was impossible for a man to fly.
