I’m just going to say it.

It breaks my heart how the news only seems to report the worst of the worst when it comes to child care. They find the most horrific stories and blast them everywhere. It’s no wonder parents are scared to send their children to daycare.

But that’s not the full picture.

I wish those same news outlets would come to a child care conference and see what I see: rooms full of providers who’ve given up their weekends, paid for their own hotel rooms, driven for hours just to keep learning. Why? Because they care that much about being better for the children in their care.

The truth is, most child care providers are incredibly dedicated. They work through illness. They don’t take paid vacations. They keep going, even when their personal lives are falling apart, because they don’t want to leave families without care.

They’re committed. They’re compassionate. They’re consistent.

But those stories don’t make headlines.

And that’s a shame, because those are the stories that deserve to be told.
