You can parent “gently” - just don’t miss the opportunity to teach valuable lessons that loving discipline offers. Firm boundaries with a loving (and a teaching spirit) make children feel secure, loved, and competent as they learn critical life lessons.
Feelings aren't the problem.
They're natural.
Necessary.
Human.
Anger, sadness, fear, frustration —
they're all valid.
And our children need to know that.
But that doesn't mean every behaviour that comes with those feelings is okay...
Throwing things,
hurting others,
shutting down —
these are signals, not solutions.
Our job isn't to shut the feelings down.
It's to teach our children what to do with them.
To help them name what's rising inside.
To set clear boundaries around what's not okay.
And to guide them toward healthier ways of expressing what's hard to hold.
Because emotional honesty and self-regulation can coexist.
We can teach both.
Validate the feeling.
Redirect the behaviour.
That's where the growth happens. ❤️
