Todays science lesson, always use your tools. This zoom makes this tiny caterpillar look huge. I think it has about doubled in size BUT I never measured its length so it’s all guess work! Whoops.
From my observations I’m guessing they really prefer dill as all the caterpillars remain on the old dills leaves and have not ventured to the parsley or carrot greens. Therefore I’m officially on the search for fresh dill, for my caterpillars!

Unfortunately I don’t have dill in my garden so we need to last the holiday weekend with greens other than dill. After some research I’ve learned carrot greens and parsley can suffice for these caterpillars.
I’ve added a little of both. We’ll watch and see where our caterpillars end up! Stay tuned.

Just found my start of summer exploration. Black swallowtail butterfly rearing.
This little caterpillar hatched on some fresh dill a friend gave me, and now I’ve adopted it.
I’ve been real quiet on posting about science this school year (but have lots to say) but stay tuned for caterpillar updates!
