We are excited to announce an upcoming guest to our campus from Savannah School of Art and Design to speak with our creative students about their programs. Students who are interested in coming to hear about creative career opportunities must obtain a pass from the career center starting August 24th. This is for any student interested- they do not have to be enrolled in any Fine Arts courses to attend.

Are you curious what competitions are coming up for your young artist this semester? Here are just a few contests to get on the move and get to making magic! First, is our wonderful Walter Anderson Museum's Fall student art show. You must enter the art digitally first and then submit the original artwork framed for the showcase. Coming up in December is one of the most competitive art shows in the nation, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson hosts this showcase, taking the digital artworks first for judging. The third contest is our newest competition that endorses a stewardship of the Gulf Coast here in Jackson County. Follow the links below for each contest or simply email any art teacher for assistance. We are happy to assist in forms, submissions, artist statements! We are equipped to scan artworks for any student at OSHS regardless if they are enrolled in a course.

Congratulations to one of our very own OSHS Visual Arts teachers, Shanna Britt!!!💙🐾💙
Mrs. Britt is an amazing painting/drawing teacher and leads our OSHS Art Club. Thank you Mrs. Britt for all that you do and the countless hours you spend helping to make our art department one of the best there is!!💙🖌💙🎨💙
Why Shanna Britt is the Best in the world!
You are one of the hardest workers I know. You devote countless hours to your students, your classroom, and to painting the beautiful murals that bring so much color and life to our district. You’re a mom, a teacher, an artist, a friend, and an inspiration to our students, faculty, and school community.
You pour yourself into everything you do. Whether it’s Student Council or collaborating with the band, choir, and theatre departments, your goal is always the same: helping everyone succeed. That kind of selflessness is so rare, and it’s one of the many reasons you are so valued at our school. This award may be coming from me, but I truly believe it represents how our entire art department feels. We love you, we value you, and we are so grateful for who you are and for everything you work so hard to do every single day.
You are appreciated.
You are valued.
And what you do is important.
Congratulations, Mrs. Britt!

OSHS visual art students kicked off the school year playing "Chopped-Art Edition"!!! Students were challenged to create a 3D sculpture using only a select few art supplies within certain amount of time. At the end of the time, students got to vote on their favorite pieces. Students had fun as they all worked hard to create some impressive sculptures!! We can't wait to see what they create over the next nine weeks!🎨🖌✂️🖍

The Walter Anderson Musuem of Art delivered an outstanding student art show, titled, "Paradise Found," where several artworks were accepted and displayed to represent the Fine Arts of Ocean Springs High School among other districts and art programs. Our very own senior, Abbygayl Almyah McLean received the Senior Art Award scholarship for her art portfolio. A second award winner, a rising talent, Nico Sanchez was crowned as the People's choice award at the reception on Saturday, May 23rd. These winning artworks as well as several other participants from our visual arts program were on display in the museum and now available to view in the virtual gallery.
