Our one-year-olds have been busy exploring their classroom! 💛

From pushing pop-up buttons to sliding abacus beads on our frog wall panel to matching shapes on the zebra board, every bit of play builds something important:

✋ Fine motor skills: pinching, pushing, twisting, and grasping
🧠 Cause and effect: "When I press this, something happens!"
🔵🟡🔴 Colors, shapes, and early counting
🧍 Pulling up, standing, and balancing
👀 Focus and problem-solving

At one, play is learning, and our teachers set up every space with purpose so curious little minds can explore safely and confidently.

👀📚 A MONSTER-sized imagination at S.M.A.R.T. Beginnings!

Inspired by I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll, our Fall Campers brought the story to life by creating their very own playdough monsters! With googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and plenty of imagination, each creation had its own personality. 💚💜

We explored the story’s characters, talked about how Ethan felt when his monster Gabe was away, and imagined monsters that could help him feel safe.

As the children squeezed, rolled, shaped, and decorated, they practiced fine motor skills, creative problem-solving, and expressing their ideas. Discussing the story also supported comprehension, listening, and understanding feelings.

A little playdough, a great book, and so many opportunities to learn through play! 🥰

🥕🐰 Creepy carrots, creative kids, and a whole lot of learning!

Our children brought the story Creepy Carrots! to life with a hands-on STEM challenge: build a fence to keep those sneaky carrots inside their patch! Using clothespins and craft sticks, they explored ways to create walls, corners, and sturdy structures. 🛠️

As they built, they practiced problem-solving, strengthened fine motor skills, shared materials, and tried different ideas. Each adjustment was a chance to think, “How can I make this work?” 💡

Connecting books with hands-on activities encourages children to imagine, create, and keep trying—even when their first idea falls over!

At S.M.A.R.T. Beginnings, this is what we mean by Learning Disguised as Fun! 🧡

I don’t think people realize how attached childcare providers get to the children we care for.

We know which cry means they’re hurt and which one means they’re mad.

We notice when they’re quieter than usual.

We celebrate the new words, the first steps, the successful potty trips, and the days they finally eat the food they’ve refused 47 times. 😂

We know when they need an extra hug before they even ask for one.

And somewhere between wiping noses, changing diapers, breaking up toddler arguments, and singing the same song for the 900th time…

They become OUR babies too. 🥹

Then one day they move classrooms, start school, or leave altogether, and we’re just expected to act like a tiny person we spent almost every day loving didn’t take a little piece of our heart with them.

Childcare is not just a job. It provides for the workforce and it is not for people who think all we do is babysit. It is a calling!

We love them as our own and it hurts when they move on regardless of the reason.❤️

💛 This is what it's all about. 💛

One of our families is moving on because of a change in location, and left us this note:

"We have loved our time here. Thank you for loving her so much. We have enjoyed all her teachers, but Shanta, Jennifer, and Michelle will always be special to us. We are so sad to leave, but we won't be too far!"

A big S.M.A.R.T. shout-out to Shanta Jones, Michelle Young, Jennifer Yarbor 🐔👏 Thank you for showing up every day with patience and heart. You made a family feel loved and at home, and they'll remember it always.

To the family: thank you for trusting us with your little one. You're always welcome back to visit! 💛
