What makes a painting truly compelling? It often begins with how we arrange the elements on the canvas. ✨

Join artist and educator Heather Martin this November for a four-week exploration of composition, the first subject of our Painting Studio series. Discover how balance, shape, movement, and visual flow can transform how you approach your paintings.

Designed for painters of varying experience levels, The Painting Studio offers a welcoming, collaborative space to experiment, build confidence, and grow as an artist. Each session combines focused instruction and demonstrations with plenty of time to work on your own painting in acrylic or oil, with individualized guidance and constructive feedback along the way.

Making art in a place like Horn Island feels different. 🏝

The light changes constantly. The horizon seems to go on forever.

No buildings, traffic, or everyday distractions; just water, wind, sand, and miles of wild landscape.

On Sunday, October 25, we're taking a small group of artists by charter boat to Horn Island for a full day of plein air painting.

This isn't a traditional workshop. No demonstrations, assignments, or formal instruction.

Instead, you'll have something artists rarely get enough of: uninterrupted time to observe, explore, and make work in an extraordinary place.

Paint on your own. Set up alongside another artist. Wander until you find the view that stops you.

☀️ A little creativity, a little wax, and a whole lot of joy! 🎨✨

Batik is a beautiful, hands-on art form that uses hot wax and layers of color to create unique designs on fabric. In our last workshop, students got lost in the process, carefully applying wax, painting the fabric, and watching their designs come to life in a relaxed, cheerful studio atmosphere. And the best part? You don’t need any prior experience! Heather Martin will guide you through the process, step by step.

HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND!

Build Color. Create Light. Find Your Voice.

Soft pastel is incredibly direct—there's no brush separating your hand from the color. But learning to control that color, build layers, and create depth takes more than simply choosing the right stick.

During her two-day workshop at Ethotera, Mandy Ellard will take students deeper into the medium, exploring:

-Using value and color effectively
-Layering pastels without losing freshness
-Working on sanded surfaces
-Building stronger compositions
-Creating depth, atmosphere, and light
-Developing a more personal approach to mark-making and color

You'll have two full days to learn, experiment, ask questions, and put those ideas into practice.
