Good morning everyone! Please take time to read, this is an important matter.

Please read the following proposed regulation from the Maryland Register:

COMAR 13A.15.08.01 [D] E. Supervision of Resting Children.

(1) If a resting or napping child is younger than 2 years old, the provider or substitute shall:

(a) Remain on the same level as the child;

**********************

THIS REGULATION CURRENTLY STATES:

(a) REMAIN WITHIN SIGHT AND SOUND OF THE CHILD; AND
(b) OBSERVE THE CHILD AT LEAST EVERY 15 MINUTES TO DETERMINE THAT THE CHILD IS SAFE, BREATHING AND IN NO PHYSICAL DISTRESS.

**This is where the compromise came a few years back. We were told we could use a sight and sound monitor with 15 minute visual checks in place of remaining on the same level with the child under two.

We would like to maintain the current regulation the way it is written: sound and sight monitor with 15 minute interval checks. A lot of providers and parents will be affected if this regulation pushes through. Even if you are not affected, you can still do something to help our fellow providers.

Please email Rebecca Hancock (MSFCCA VP of Public Policy) at [email protected] so we can prevent the supervision regulation from passing. Your voice is important to us and we are stronger as a group. This is our chance to voice out our opinions regarding this matter. Please forward this email to every Maryland provider you know. You can also ask parents to send an email to Rebecca which she will forward to Senator Kagan.

Please watch the hearing last October 24, 2019 regarding proposed regulations (hearing starts at the 36 minute mark; Rebecca speaks at 1:30:48 mark- please scroll):
