Chinese martial arts originate from Chinese culture. The principles of actual combat in martial arts relate to the individual application of theories from military strategists.
For example: "In employing troops, one step requires a hundred plans" (用兵,一步百計). Another example states: "Those who do not plan for generations are incapable of planning for a single moment; those who do not plan for the entire situation are incapable of planning for a single city" (不謀萬世者,不足謀一時;不謀全局著,不足謀一城).
Therefore, modern combat sports of foreigners focus on scoring individual punches and kicks through deliberate practice. In contrast, actual combat in Chinese martial arts aims for absolute victory and complete success with a single move. The resulting application of techniques, psychological determination, as well as the guidelines and objectives of training, are completely different matters!

"In martial practice 'you must exceed yourself first, then you can exceed your opponents.' The latter is easy to understand, but the former has profound meaning. 'To exceed yourself first' is not limited to practicing diligently, enduring hardship and persisting in your efforts, What's more important is to change your thinking, body, bone and muscle; start fresh as a completely new person, unlearning all habitual movements in order to relearn martial skills from scratch according to martial requirements. Every practitioner should be reborn as a new person with authentic martial art DNA built into their flesh and bone." — Shifu Adam Hsu 止戈武塾Adam Hsu Kungfu School Life Is Too Short For Bad Kung Fu https://www.amazon.com/dp/1939278147

A form is made of a series of moves and, therefore, one should learn the moves first and then the entire form. There are two variations for practicing moves: single and linking. One should learn single moves first. Then after mastering each single move, three or five moves can be connected and practiced as linking moves. One should develop good ability in linking moves before doing the entire form. Once proficiency is achieved in linking movements of a form, students can advance their skills by changing the order and angles of the moves, training the mind and body to adapt to different situations with greater flexibility, awareness, and fluidity. — Shifu Adam Hsu 止戈武塾Adam Hsu Kungfu School Life Is Too Short For Bad Kung Fu https://www.amazon.com/dp/1939278147

"Only traditional Chinese martial arts integrate the healing arts with combat skills. They combine internal energy cultivation with external movement, fostering the simultaneous development of body and mind. In contrast, Western systems often focus solely on external movement, lacking the internal component. While Eastern styles may have adopted Chinese methods, they often capture only the outward form. They may bear impressive names and foster a sense of self-satisfaction, yet in substance, they fall far short of the true meaning of the "Dao" (Way) they claim to embody! Furthermore, while martial arts are no longer used for killing, the practice of martial arts to save lives is a truly noble pursuit. Through the practice of martial arts, individuals can cultivate their own physical and mental well-being, while simultaneously contributing to the peace and stability of the nation and society."—Shifu Adam Hsu 止戈武塾Adam Hsu Kungfu School

"Martial arts movements have three layers. The first layer is the external appearnace of arms flying and legs dancing. The second layer is the tendon and muscle that expand and contract freely. The third layer is the core that uses the spine to initiate and lead the motion of the shoulders, arms, hips and legs. The entire body functions as one rotating wheel. From the beginning of martial arts practice, one should focus on using the spine to lead the movement of the four limbs. Even if they practice very hard to improve their skill, people who kick and punch without following this principle are only giving their arms and legs a regular workout. These movement have nothing to do with Chinese martial arts." — Shifu Adam Hsu 止戈武塾Adam Hsu Kungfu School, Life Is Too Short For Bad Kung Fu https://www.amazon.com/dp/1939278147
