In uncertain times, we return to what grounds us — the Earth beneath our feet. Now more than ever, the Earth needs our love.

Everyday is Earth Day here at The Woods. At Westminster Woods, we show our gratitude to the Earth in everything we do… connecting students to redwood forests, watersheds, marine ecosystems, and the starry sky above. We believe that when the next generations truly connect with nature, they become its protectors.

That love for the Earth doesn’t stop when the school year ends. Every summer, campers return to the redwoods for adventure, friendship, growth, and connection — backpacking during Woods to Waves, building leadership as a Counselor in Training, or singing under the stars at a campfire.

And behind the scenes, our Buildings and Grounds crew is quietly doing God’s work — reducing fuel loads, removing invasive species, protecting our waterways, and repurposing everything in sight. We could not be more grateful for them.

The moment you cross the bridge into Westminster Woods, something shifts. A deep connection to our natural world… and for those who feel it, a connection to Christ.

On this Earth Day, we pray for a world where every student has access to Environmental Education. From what we have seen, it changes lives. It protects our Earth.

Thank you for supporting Westminster Woods. You help us protect our forest, our creeks, our meadows. We always have and always will make it our mission to preserve this sanctuary; a sanctuary for transformative experiences.

Folks, we have an exciting opportunity that just opened up — we’re hiring a new Challenge Course Manager!
Now, you know him, you love him, and to answer your burning question: no, T-Rex (Benji) is not leaving us! Benji ran so our next Challenge Course Manager could fly. (Ha… get it?)
In all seriousness, we are in awe of everything Benji has accomplished over the last couple of years. While we’re sad to see him take a step back from the admin team, we’re thrilled to welcome in a fresh set of eyes and ideas.

Westminster Woods is seeking a talented and experienced Interim Executive Director to lead our organization through an exciting period of leadership transition. This is a full-time, temporary position beginning September 1, 2026, with the expectation of serving a 12-month term through August 31, 2027 — with the option to extend through January 31, 2028 at the Board of Director’s request.

Well friends, we have some bittersweet news to share.

Our beloved Executive Director, Chris Rhodes, is officially retiring on August 31st, 2026.

13 years as our Executive Director, and wow, what a ride. But Chris's story with The Woods goes back so much further. It was 1984 when he first discovered this place, a counselor in Cabin 4 for his church's high school youth group. That church? Presbyterian Church of the Roses, one he is still a part of today. Over 40 years later, here we are.

He served on our Board from 2000 to 2010 before stepping into the ED role in 2013. Five decades of showing up for this place. We truly cannot wrap our heads around that.

Chris also owns Chris Rhodes Construction, which has been an incredible resource for our Buildings and Grounds team over the years. And on top of directing camp AND running his own business, he is up at 5am five days a week at Presbyterian Church of the Roses serving breakfast to kids from Montgomery Junior High. That is just who he is.

He has a heart of gold, can make you laugh out of nowhere, and has been a rock for The Woods for nearly five decades.

His kids came to camp in the 90s. Those kids now have kids of their own who also come to camp. And his wife, the incredible Liz Rhodes, our dancing queen, was on staff for eight years as our Administration Manager. She retired last August, so it's only fair it's now Chris's turn!

He DESERVES this. To rest, to travel, to enjoy his many hobbies.

Thank you for everything, Chris. You are so deeply appreciated.

Women's Weekend 2026 left us full... Full of laughter, of love, of the kind of connection that only women can create together. Thank you to every single person who showed up, opened up, and made this the most beautiful one yet.

To gretchen: you were the heartbeat of this weekend. Thank you for everything you gave to make it happen!
