Milestone Monday

After 10 years together Lynn and Cyril wanted to surprise Marie-Frances with a special gift. That gift was a baby Boston Terrier, a female with perfectly matched white markings and a personality that wouldn't quit. She was not the perfect dog, but she was the perfect dog for Marie-Frances. In 2006, after a long drive home from the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg, PA, Deka Davis became part of the family. She was a "10" in more ways than one!

Sand N My Bootz Saturday

In July Bootz had a big test. One week of showing in VA with both Lynn and Marjorie-and he passed with flying colors! Staggering his classes throughout the days and keeping close eyes on his frame of mind and physical condition were important as this was the first multi-day multi-test for him. He started and ended with his ears forward and tail softly swinging. He was happy to show and got better in his performance and scores as the days went on. Everybody was smiling at the end as Marjorie finished her AQHA ROM and was more that half way to her Superior. Plus she rode Bootz to Champion of the Amateur Basic Level!

If Bootz continues like this, he will be such a fun all around horse in Ranch events and whatever else Marjorie wants to try. She is .

Milestone Monday

After many visits to Switzerland multiple times per year, Lynn decided to visit the Breeder's Select Sale one summer. In 2000, there were more than 50 young horses entered. Lynn decided she liked 10, then ended up purchasing 3.

Cinderella KWG, Karat HCW and Larona B would eventually make their way to Florida-with Marie-Frances. That's right, she was the flight attendant which sounds fun and glamorous but was anxiety-inducing and exhilarating at the same time. 2 1/2 days, 3 countries, 2 trucks and 1 plane later they all hit New York.

Sitting in the cockpit for takeoff and landing was a highlight for Marie-Frances. Carrying an oxygen tank equal to her weight while checking horses in the cargo section was a whole other story.

Milestone Monday

Since we shared Rugged Painted Lark and his success as a breeding stallion, it is only fitting to share his older sister, Sheza Painted Lark, shared previously as one that Marie-Frances showed before she went to live in Switzerland (another milestone). Demi and Bruce, brother and sister were featured in The American Paint Horse: A Photographic Portrayal by David Stoecklein and Darrell Dodds in 2001. Later, one of the images landed on APHA greeting cards and this one appeared as the cover of The Breeders and Trainers Directory that year.

Milestone Monday

One day in the early 2000s Lynn came to Marie-Frances and said, let's getting into breeding. Armed with little knowledge and 3 Rugged Lark stallions, away she went.

Sand N My Bootz Saturday

At home and by video, Cyril coaches Lynn to prepare for the Western Dressage tests that he does not usually get to see live. Then it's up to Lynn and Marie-Frances to put it all together-the traveling, the grooming, care, warmup, showing, videoing (to send to Cyril for feedback), post show care-consistency is key. With that, this is a sampling of Lynn's warmup for Level 2. She starts slow and builds to the lope and movements that require more lateral, more bending and more collection. Knowing your horse and plan is so important. You don't want to leave him in the warmup ring. Be ready to show your best by the whistle or the bell.

Milestone Monday

After Marie-Frances spent many years learning ground work, conditioning horses and grooming for the show ring, she was availed the opportunity to show some on her own. All Larks in those years, she rode them in hunter under saddle, Hunter Hack, Working Hunter, Dressage and later Western Dressage. Each of those horses shaped her as a rider and competitor and solidified her place on the team and with wonderful owners who supported her efforts. Many thanks to them for giving her those opportunities early on.

Sand N My Bootz Saturday

By nature, Bootz is a laid back horse. To keep him sharp and connected, we often do many short sequences of transitions to keep him thinking forward. Here Cyril directs Lynn through a series of transitions in and between gaits.

Milestone Monday

One year in a birthday card, Marie-Frances received a photo of a yearling with the words-we look forward to developing your talents with this young horse. That young horse was Larks Smart Alec by Rugged Lark and full brother to Rugged Painted Lark. He became one of the best school horses in the history of school horses. How could he not? Marie-Frances spent countless hours with him before and after her long days in the barn. Months of ground work, 3 years before cantering under saddle (if you know her you know why) and he stayed in Florida each summer so he had only half a year's training. So all that time and persistence paid off. Eventually retired from the school horse program, living his later years at Mary Has A Little Farm in Tampa and continuing to teach was where he loved to be. That horse touched more than the heart of Marie-Frances.
