As part of the industry specific curriculum created for Oberlin Music Theater, OMT students take a semester of acting for the camera. This course will be taught by the newest addition to the OMT faculty; Janet Louer.
Janet has worked in the theatre & film industry for more than 40 years, helping launch and shape the careers of actors, artistic directors, directors, agents, & casting directors in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, & across the country.
Janet was honored to serve as the first talent manager for Tony Award winner & television star Heather Headley, whose credits include Ragtime, The Lion King, Aida, & The Color Purple.
Her extensive casting and representation career includes serving as a Casting Associate for BCI in New York City for film & television and with TNI for Broadway. As a talent agent, Janet represented Second City performers including Steve Carell, Dave Pasquesi, Richard Kind, Rose Abdoo, & Rachel Dratch; film and TV actors including Johnny Galecki, Denis O’Hare, Jamie Denton, & Tom Amandes; and Broadway performers Kate Baldwin & Katrina Lenk.
In Chicago, Janet was Co-Owner of Chicago Casting Company, where she cast projects for Nickelodeon, Disney Pictures, NBC, Miramax, and ABC TV. She also served as a Chicago Casting Associate for the Broadway musicals The Lion King, Chicago, and Beauty and the Beast, as well as for Actors Theatre of Louisville.
Janet served as a professor at DePaul University’s Theatre School, teaching BFA and MA students audition technique for theatre and film, as well as the business of “the business.” In collaboration with Binder Casting’s Mark Brandon and Disney Theatrical Productions, she created Lion King Boot Camp, a specialized training program designed to prepare actors for casting opportunities in the production.
As an Artistic Director and creator, Janet founded Another Door Theatre Project and Ensemble Conservatory, providing young actors with comprehensive training and performance opportunities.
Janet holds a BFA in Acting from the United States School for the Performing Arts and a MA in Movement Psychotherapy from NYU/Columbia College. She is also a certified Strategic Interventionalist for Actors.
