Oberlin Dance is delighted to welcome another new faculty member this fall, Thomas Prestø, Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance and Africana Studies! We are confident Thomas will bring continuity to our past programming in West African dance while introducing new dimensions to the curriculum in interdisciplinary creative practices and Africana studies.

Thomas Talawa Prestø is a prominent dance artist and researcher, renowned for his work in African and Caribbean dance through the creation of the Talawa Technique. As founder of Tabanka Dance Ensemble and a research fellow, he has devoted over 25 years to diversifying the Norwegian art field. Prestø’s work, which emphasizes inclusive and decolonial practices, has significantly influenced the dance world, combining practical skills with academic research. He recently became one of Scandinavia’s first Ph.D. graduates to focus on decolonial dance and performance practices, further solidifying his role as a leader in this specialized field.

Oberlin Dance is excited to welcome one of our new faculty members this fall, Mary-Elizabeth Fenn, Instructor of Ballet, who will be teaching DANC 113: Ballet I in the fall and DANC 312: Ballet III next spring.

With a rich background in both performance and choreography, Mary-Elizabeth brings a wealth of experience to our program. Previously, she performed leading roles across classical and contemporary ballet with Neos Dance Theatre, under the direction of Robert Wesner. In addition she served as a resident choreographer for the company, crafting over ten original works, including a full-length rendition of Cinderella. Her artistic journey also led her to New York City, where she spent two years freelancing while continuing to choreograph and perform with Neos. During her time in NYC, Mary-Elizabeth graced stages for various choreographers, imparted her knowledge through teaching, and founded her own dance company, Fenn & Company. Mary-Elizabeth holds an MFA in Contemporary Dance from Case Western Reserve University and a BFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
