💅 Putting skills into practice — and giving back to the community.

Students in the Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center Manicurist program recently spent time with residents at The AbbeWood, volunteering their skills and gaining another opportunity to connect with others while growing in their craft.

Experiences like these allow students to build confidence, practice their skills and see firsthand the personal connection that is such an important part of working in the beauty industry.

Thank you, AbbeWood, for welcoming our students and giving them the opportunity to spend time with your residents!

Interested in turning your own creativity and skills into a new career? The Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center Manicurist program is now enrolling for fall and winter classes.

From the newest members of our team to those who have dedicated decades to our students and school community, we’re excited to have everyone back together and ready for another great year.

Next up: our students! We can’t wait to welcome them back on Monday, August 31.

The Heart of Opportunity Tour kicked off in Northeast Ohio at Rocket Arena — bringing together partners from across the region who share a commitment to building stronger communities and creating greater opportunity for the people who call Ohio home.

"Ohio is red hot, and the entire world is taking notice," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.

That momentum is powered by communities working together. Economic development, education, workforce development, and industry are interconnected — and when we collaborate, we create pathways that strengthen families, businesses, and communities across Northeast Ohio.

Lorain County JVS was proud to be in the room as talent remained at the center of the conversation.

"Our people are the most valuable asset and what makes Ohio competitive," said Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development.

Team NEO CEO and President Matt Dolan also highlighted the more than 90 employer wins throughout the 14-county region and recognized the important partnership between career-technical education, community colleges, and the business community.

The future of Northeast Ohio is being built together — by investing in our people, strengthening our communities, and connecting education and workforce opportunities to the economic growth happening throughout our region.

That is the Heart of Opportunity.

An anchor in Lorain County, LCJVS is changing the talent narrative across Northeast Ohio. From understanding the business community to following state and national trends and creating a school climate that embraces innovation, LCJVS is defining what it means to be workforce ready in Ohio.

The Chronicle-Telegram spotlights a new Advanced Manufacturing (Industry 4.0) pathway that blends STEM, robotics, real-world application, and the credentials employers like Avient, Lincoln Electric, Avery Dennison, Beckett Thermal, NASA Glenn, Flexjet, and many more are looking for in talent.

The new Robotics, Engineering, and Innovation program opens this school year with investments from the district that include a new lab, equipment, technology, and a collaborative environment to simulate employer spaces and project-based interactions.

Building Lorain County’s Health Care Workforce Through the Allied Health Pathway

Northeast Ohio is a hub for world-class health care, groundbreaking innovations, and global giants like Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, The MetroHealth System, and Case Western Reserve University. With the growing demand for clinicians in the region, Lorain County JVS is leveraging the OTC+ (Ohio Technical Centers) pathway to expand allied health careers, earn credentials, and build partnerships across the region.

The OTC+ Health Care Collaborative is powered by Lorain County Community College, O'Neill Healthcare, and LCJVS. This partnership is supporting a new generation of health care professionals starting in high school, where students earn, learn, and grow within Greater Cleveland's health care economy.

Megan Champagne, High School Principal, champions the results of the OTC+ strategy. "This is exactly the purpose of the OTC+ model: to expand Ohio's talent workforce, prepare the next generation of skilled professionals, and think creatively with partners to accelerate what is possible when industry and education intersect," said Megan Champagne, High School Principal. "This is the second allied health cohort, and we will continue to build upon this work with partners across the region."
