FFA’s “Winston & Earl” will be going to sale this Wednesday, August 5!! Don’t miss them at the Oakley Livestock Salebarn.

FFA bought these two in February. So many students (who had never fed a bottle calf ever) learned so much from them! Rain or snow we had to go out twice a day to feed & the students also took care of them during the weekends & all this summer. It’s hard to not get attached!!!

Heifer & Steer - black angus - around 450ish lbs

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Farming is a stressful occupation that is associated with increased levels of anxiety and depression. Multiple studies show that farmer su***de rates are 2-5x higher than the national average. It is important to break the stigma around mental health challenges and encourage those struggling to reach out for help. To build a sustainable future for agriculture for our nation and our world, we must promote the wellbeing of our nation’s farmers and ranchers.

Oakley FFA Members put together around 100 care packages full of goodies to show their appreciation towards farmers and ranchers. Thank you Oakley Livestock Commission Company and Scoular - Winona/Monument/Oakley for letting us place them in your businesses. Additionally, special thank you to Foote Cattle Company & Mittens Travel Center for donating merchandise to add to the bags!

The Animal Science class had a great hands-on learning experience last week. Students visited the Oakley Vet Clinic, where they observed a dog spay procedure and toured the facility. Thank you to Jacey for taking the time to teach and show us around!

The class also visited Pioneer Feedlot and learned more about daily operations. A big thank you to Foote’s for showing us the Oakley yard—and for wrapping up the morning with a delicious steak!

We appreciate our local ag community for helping provide these real-world learning opportunities for our students!

The Plant/Soils class toured Western Plains Energy last week. We are truly so lucky in Oakley to be able to tour something like this just 10 minutes away. We learned how local corn & sorghum are transformed into 50 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol annually. Can’t forget the distiller side either!
