EBI is proud to be the only Spanish/English bilingual IB school offering the PYP and MPY on the West Coast.
in Spanish and English, and will develop conversational skills in a third language. Educational Excellence
EBI is committed to maintaining high standards for its students in all areas of education. We believe that when learning is stimulating, fun and developmentally appropriate, children gain the motivation to become self-directed, life-long learners. To this end, EBI is working toward permission to implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). The PYP and MYP programs, developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization, are internationally-recognized pedagogical programs that focus on the development of the whole child and view academic, emotional, physical and social growth as interdependent, equally important aspects of primary education. They promote the active construction of knowledge through concept-driven inquiry, striking a balance between a transdisciplinary program of inquiry and traditional disciplines. They aim to promote international-mindedness by emphasizing key questions derived from the concepts that underlie the entire curriculum. Finally, EBI believes that aesthetic ability and appreciation are essential elements of a well-rounded education, and therefore will make music and the visual and performing arts central aspects of the curriculum. Diversity
At the heart of EBI is the conviction that tolerance and respect for cultural diversity breeds deeper understanding and compassion for all humanity. EBI strives to teach its students about diversity in its many forms – ethnic, linguistic, economic, cultural and familial – by actively working to create a community of individuals from all walks of life. EBI aims to reflect the multiple diversities of the area in which we live by aligning our admissions, hiring and financial aid policies with this core value. At EBI, we believe that all children deserve an outstanding education and we are committed to an educational philosophy that is open to all and is not sexist, racist or homophobic. Global Citizenship
EBI believes that education should inspire students to use knowledge to help make the world a better place. To that end, EBI will strive to instill in each student a joy of learning and a passion to be become one's best self, in order to help others be their own best selves. We will help students understand what it means to be part of a global community, so that they can identify their own responsibilities as members and future leaders of our world. Character
EBI believes that at the heart of education is the cultivation of character. We strive to promote certain qualities of character in our students explicitly, through pedagogically sound methods of inquiry practiced in the classroom, as well as implicitly, through examples reinforced on a daily basis by our teachers, administrators and parents. Among other qualities of character, we will seek to instill in our students: respect for self and others, integrity, compassion, cooperation, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, open-mindedness, confidence, humility and generosity.
