Tech Exchange Tech Exchange increases opportunity by providing equitable technology access and support to resident

Tech Exchange is dedicated to providing equitable access to technology to individuals across the Bay. Tech Exchange recognizes the need for people of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds to gain access to the digital word by owning a home computer and acquiring technological knowledge and skills in steps toward individual self-sufficiency and empowerment. The organization also employs an environmentally sustainable, re-use model by refurbishing donated personal computers and other technological equipment, and providing them at a low-cost to community members.

Hands-on help makes digital equity possible! 🛠️💻

A huge shoutout to these 5 amazing volunteers who joined us in the Tech Exchange warehouse today! They spent their time helping us inspect, clean, and process donated devices,prepping them for a second life in our local communities.

Every refurbished laptop and desktop processed in our warehouse directly fuels our digital literacy classes, tech support, and digital equity initiatives across the Bay Area counties we serve. By giving tech a second life, our volunteers are helping bridge the digital divide while keeping e-waste out of landfills. 🌍✨

What an extraordinary evening of unity, impact, and unapologetic resilience! 💙

Last week, over 150 champion minds joined us at the California Ballroom for the 3rd Annual Tech Exchange Digital Inclusion Awards. Together, we deepened our bonds, raised critical funds by exceeding our event goals, and fortified our shared vision for a fully connected future.

Highlights from an unforgettable night:

🏆 Honoring Legacy: Congresswoman Lateefah Simon’s office presented Tech Exchange founder Bruce Buckelew with the Forever Leader Award, celebrating over 30 years of digital equity leadership across California.

🤖 AI & Equity Panel: Assemblymember Ana Marie Avila Farias, Irving Torres, Arturo Juarez, and Kennan Scott led a vital conversation on legislative action, digital infrastructure affordability, workforce development, and protecting our humanity in a tech-driven world.

🤝 Celebrating Our Champions: We honored remarkable partners advancing this movement—SEMI (Sustainability Champion), Hack the Hood (Community Change Champion), and CETF (Advocacy Champion).

🎶 Resilience & Joy: Executive Director Ulises Zatarain reminded us that "Resilience is the human spirit" and called on us to keep equity centered openly and unapologetically—before local hip-hop artist brought the room to its feet to cap off the night in celebration!

OAKLAND is taking CENTER STAGE for NATIONAL DIGITAL INCLUSION WEEK!

As the nation marks National Digital Inclusion Week and National Digital Inclusion Month, Tech Exchange is bringing that conversation home to City of Oakland on OCTOBER 9 for Tech Exchange’s Third Annual Connected Futures: Digital Inclusion Awards.

This will be more than an awards celebration. It’s a gathering of people who care deeply about who gets access to technology, who gets to benefit from it, and who gets to shape what comes next.

Oakland Youth: Get paid to launch your tech career! 💻✨

Tech Exchange and the Oakland Workforce Development Board are launching Serve2Stem—a paid 16-week IT internship for youth ages 14–24.

🛠️ What you’ll learn:

• Computer Refurbishment
• Tech & Software Support
• Digital Navigation
• Work Readiness Workshops

Who Can Apply?

✅ Ages 16–24 (not currently in school)
✅ Facing barriers to school or work & eligible to work in the U.S.

⚡ The Details:
• Pay: Up to $1,500 stipend
• Hours: Up to 16 flexible hrs/week
• Starts: Early October
