Last month, , equity advocates, and partners from across gathered in Sacramento for , a day organized by Black Educator Advocates Network and Brotherhood of Elders Network to champion policies that strengthen and sustain the Black teacher pipeline.
We were grateful to stand alongside advocates, educators, and community leaders who came together across regions, roles, and experiences to meet with legislators and elevate priorities focused on recruiting, retaining, and supporting Black educators across the state, including investment in the Golden State Teacher Grant, support for ACA 7, and sustained funding for the Diverse Education Leadership Pipeline Initiative (DELPI).
The day was a powerful reminder that the wisdom, leadership, and lived experiences of Black educators belong at the center of decisions that shape . May we never underestimate what becomes possible when we move together. ❤️🖤💚

As we kick off June and move through graduation season, we’re celebrating BTP Fellowship Cohort 5 in , GA and the 18-month journey this incredible group of shared together!
Through affinity space, coaching, shared inquiry, and collaborative learning, BTP Fellows deepened their leadership, explored Black identity development, and co-imagined more liberated possibilities for teaching and learning in their schools and communities.
What Cohort 5 built extends beyond the BTP Fellowship itself. This community of Black educators has been grounded in restoration, critical friendship, collective care, and shared growth, with hopes of carrying that spirit forward long after this chapter closes.
May the relationships, learning, and leadership cultivated through this experience continue on. Love to each graduating BTP Fellow! ❤️🖤💚

Some people help build orgs not only through strategy and labor, but through spirit, care, and the way they bring people together.
We’re deeply saddened to share the passing of Matthew Florence, a Black educator, a beloved friend, and one of the architects of the Black Teacher Project.
For years, Matthew helped shape BTP from an idea into a living community that continues to support and impact across the country. He brought humor, creativity, generosity, and deep care into every shared space he co-designed, attributed to and showed up in, and his presence will remain woven into this liberation work and community for years to come.
As Matthew’s friends and family prepare to lay him to rest and celebrate his life, we invite those who are able to support the GoFundMe created in his honor: https://gofund.me/8ea60f89c
May we continue carrying forward the care, connection, and community he modeled and helped nurture among us. We love you forever Matthew. 💚🖤❤️

is not the absence of struggle, but the presence of care, support, and connection within it.
Through stories shared across our campaign, one truth surfaced again and again: what helps stay is rarely individual endurance alone, but the presence of community, affinity, and care.
In our latest blog post, What Helps Black Teachers Stay, we reflect on the emotional and relational realities Black educators navigate while uplifting the role meaningful connection and support can play in sustaining Black teachers over time.

Sometimes support starts with being asked a real question by someone who understands the weight of the work.
Those small moments of connection and honesty between can be pathways to community, and reminders that support can live there too.
This Roll & Reflect activity invites Black educators to roll the dice with a partner or group, answer the prompt, and tap into conversation, care, and community with each other. Save this for your next staff lounge convo, prep talk, or check-in with the peers around you!
