OSA-Production Design OSA-Production Design Department Overview What is Production Design? How about planning and running a major production in front of a large audience?

Imagine designing sets for a play, using a 32-channel soundboard, recording a light show, creating the right atmosphere for a performance. That’s just a part of the magic that happens in Production Design. It’s a creative, technical program where you will design original works for events like a Haunted House, a Mini Architecture doghouse show, and also support the other artistic emphases in their

productions. Production Design students learn all aspects of producing shows and events, from the initial concept ideas and designs to the finishing touches. They gain practical experience on state-of-the-art equipment and develop skills that are valuable in the real-world job market. Students learn to design sets, light and sound using the latest software. They learn carpentry, construction, painting, creating props, and sourcing materials. They gain experience in management, leadership, working on a team, problem solving and working within time and budgetary constraint

Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about the OUT OF THIS WORLD Haunted House -- and congratulations to our talented teens for a job well done.

It was a huge success with SIX records broken:

1/ Most Audience ever going through the Haunted House with over 1200.

2/ Most complex design and maze, it took the longest to walk through.

3/ Least time ever to build it with a total of 48 class time hours... with 26 Middle School & 32 High School students building and painting, as well as designing Lights & Sound.

4/ Most spent on a Haunted House, over $ 7,750.

5/ Most made on ticket sale on a Haunted House with $ 8,393, we never broke even before.

6/ Taking down the Haunted House took two days, we are now putting it all away, but that was another record.

Our OUT OF THIS WORLD Haunted House is featured in the top Halloween events for kids on {510} Families!

If you're not familiar with {510} Families, their website is an online community for parents in the Berkeley/Oakland area dedicated to helping them discover places to go and things to do -- with kids!
