🚨 Now Offering: The Tests of Dyslexia (TOD) 🚨
The TOD is a comprehensive reading assessment for ages 5 and up—designed to identify dyslexia and other language-based learning challenges.

📚 What it measures:
✔️ Reading (timed & untimed)
✔️ Spelling
✔️ Phonological awareness
✔️ Orthographic processing
✔️ Rapid naming (RAN)
✔️ Working memory
✔️ Vocabulary & reasoning
✔️ Risk and probability indexes for dyslexia
✔️ Self, parent & teacher rating scales

A personalized guide with intervention recommendations for school and home

💡 Signs your child or teen may benefit from the TOD:
Frequently guesses at unfamiliar words
Mixes up similar letters/words (b/d, was/saw)
Struggles with spelling & proofreading
Avoids reading or gets easily fatigued
Has trouble following multi-step spoken directions
Takes much longer than peers to complete work
Big gap between verbal skills & written work
Understands content but underperforms on tests

If several of these sound familiar, an underlying reading challenge—possibly dyslexia—could be part of the picture. The TOD can help uncover what’s going on and point the way forward.

No matter if your child is in a public school or an independent/private school, figuring out how to get the right support can feel daunting. This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and tools to confidently advocate for your child in any setting. In this workshop, we’ll cover:

A roadmap of the IEP/504 process and how to get started

Understanding your rights as a parent/guardian

Common pitfalls parents should watch out for

What makes a strong IEP—and red flags to avoid

Helping Your Child Succeed—Even Without School Testing 08/07/2025

Helping Your Child Succeed—Even Without School Testing

As an Educational Therapist, I frequently hear from parents in a difficult situation. They suspect their child has a learning difference or neurodevelopmental condition but can’t get a formal diagnosis. Schools might refuse testing because they don’t provide specific diagnoses, or because the child is doing “well enough” academically despite immense effort. Private neuropsychological testing is often unaffordable.

So, what do you do in this diagnostic limbo? The good news is, you don’t need a formal label to make a profound impact. Here’s how you can empower your child to thrive.

Fostering Cognitive Flexibility in the Back-to-School Transition

As students head back to school, routines become essential—wake-up times, class schedules, homework blocks, and after-school activities all help life run more smoothly. These predictable structures help children and teens manage their expectations.

But as helpful as routines are, the start of the school year also demands a key Executive Functioning skill-cognitive flexibility—the ability to adapt, shift thinking, and adjust strategies when things don’t go as planned. A changed class schedule or a pop quiz, or example, can throw a prepared student off course.

For our neurodiverse students in particular, sudden changes can be especially challenging. When routines are disrupted, they may struggle to adapt or regulate their emotions in response. That’s why supporting both structure and flexibility is key to helping all learners thrive during the back-to-school transition.

Top Learning Accommodations Every Parent or Caregiver Should Know

Accommodations are adjustments made in the educational environment to support students with diverse learning needs. They do not change the curriculum’s content but instead provide alternate ways for students to access material and demonstrate knowledge. These changes aim to ensure equity in learning without compromising academic standards.
