MSDE offers four advisory councils — Principal, Teacher, Family, and Student — to provide input to the State Superintendent of Schools on important issues in Maryland public schools. Members participate in discussions with MSDE leadership on topics that will lead to the improvement of Maryland public schools and opportunities for students and staff.

Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) will host its first Substitute Training for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

If you're interested in making a difference in the lives of students while enjoying a flexible work schedule, we encourage you to apply today. Can't make the August 25 training? No problem. Additional substitute training opportunities will be offered throughout the remainder of the 2026-27 school year, so interested candidates are still encouraged to submit an application. The Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) Department would like to remind families that next week, August 17-21, 2026, will be the final week for the Summer Food Service Program. To ensure students have meals beyond the program’s end date, FNS will be providing 10 days of meals instead of the normal 7 days during the final distribution.

Important Notice for Unregistered Families:
If you have not yet registered for the Summer Food Service program, you must bring your children with you to receive meals.

GCPS thanks all participating families for their support of the meal distribution program and encourages everyone to plan ahead for the last pick-up.

Attention Parents/Guardians:
Information for the upcoming school year is starting to come out via email and parent portal for school messenger, etc... Please make sure your settings in your parent portal include phone calls, emails, and text messages for communication. Please also make sure your e-mails and phone numbers are up to date, and your inboxes/voicemail boxes are not full. Several emails are bouncing back to me stating that inboxes are full. Parents of Pk and new to YG students will be given parent ID letters at back to school night so that you can receive messages via school messenger as well. We want to make sure you are informed about all school related information. Thank you!
