California’s Reparations Task Force “is expected to finalize recommendations Saturday at Mills College”:

In July, the task force will present recommendations for addressing the harms that have been identified through their work.

Reparations: The Constitutional Law Landscape
Please join us online on Wednesday, November 30 from 1pm – 3pm Pacific Time for a virtual panel discussion with Professor Roy L. Brooks of the University of San Diego School of Law, Professor Margaret Burnham of Northeastern University Law School, and attorney Nicholas Cummings, corporation counsel and city attorney for the City of Evanston. The panel will address the constitutionality of various reparations proposals and will consider how policymakers might anticipate and structure reparations initiatives with Equal Protection challenges in mind.
The event is hosted by the Racial Redress and Reparations Lab of the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project, in partnership with the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy and the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs at Northeastern University, and the Black Reparations Project at Mills College at Northeastern.

Shanti Brien is an attorney, advocate, educator and writer. She is an enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) tribe and founding president of the UC Berkeley Native and Indigenous Alumni Association. Her most recent book, Almost Innocent, follows the legal and personal journeys of Shanti's clients, in the context of a criminal investigation thrust into the author's private life. Their stories bring to life the criminal justice system in all its messy, complicated, tragic humanity.
Registration is required. This event is free and open to the public, thanks to Mills College at Northeastern's Indigenous Heritage Month 2022, The Dept of Public Policy and Political Science, and the Dept of Race, Gender and S*xuality.
