First and foremost, we believe in education and empowerment. Whether we are teaching an after school enrichment class in Oakland, or a workshop for children in an Indonesian orphanage, Circus of Smiles strives to engage our audience through fun-filled performances and interactive workshops. Those workshops and classes give people a chance to do things they never thought possible: juggling, buildin
g human pyramids, and even feeling confident giving a book report in front of the whole class. When in the Bay Area, our artists and educators spread comedy and clowning through school based enrichment programs and circus events. A percentage of each student’s tuition goes directly towards spreading the love of circus-- by allowing Circus of Smiles to offer international classes and performances at no cost to those who need smiles the most. In 2011, Circus of Smiles was launched with a performance tour across Southeast Asia. Since then, our shows and workshops have made their way to Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay. To date, our outreach efforts have led us to teach and perform in schools, youth shelters, orphanages, hospitals, elder care facilities, community and emergency centers, and touched the lives of over 1,200 people abroad. Our history:
In 2011, Circus of Smiles launched with a performance tour across Southeast Asia. During a 2.5 month tour we performed at 6 schools, 2 shelters for children off the streets, and 7 orphanages across Indonesia and Thailand. In doing so, we touched the lives of more than 300 children. In fall of 2012, Circus of Smiles traveled to South America for 2 months of teaching, performing, and inspiring youth. During the 2 month tour we performed at 11 schools, 3 orphanages, 3 children's shelters, 3 community centers, and 1 hospital in Argentina and Uruguay. In the spring of 2013, Circus of Smiles did a performance tour through the state of Colima in Mexico. We visited and performed for the children in a migrant sugarcane worker's camp, for a few old age homes, and even in rural town squares.
