Project Heartbeat was selected for the American Heart Association HeartSaver Direct Pilot Program.

Heartsaver is a self-service First Aid, CPR, and AED training for people who do not require healthcare-provider BLS certification. We will offer HeartSaver Direct at three locations across Oakland and San Leandro!

FDA-cleared AI systems are now being used in radiology workflows across the country for applications ranging from chest X-ray triage to CT stroke detection to mammographic density classification.

For radiology technologists, this shift presents both an opportunity and a persistent mischaracterization that needs to be addressed directly: AI does not acquire images. AI does not position patients. AI does not assess the clinical context of an exam request. AI does not communicate with a frightened patient during a contrast injection. Every function that precedes interpretation, and that determines whether the image reaching the AI is interpretable, remains entirely in the domain of the technologist.

Project Heartbeat proudly celebrates the graduation of EMT Sacramento Class 75 from their 5-week accelerated program!

This class definitely gave both the students and instructors a few headaches along the way! 🤣 But through all the stress, challenges, long days, and plenty of dad and mom talks, you continued to show up, work together, and push forward.

And look at you now. You pulled through and came out on top! 💪

You worked tirelessly, supported one another, and put in the effort to excel in both skills and academics. The growth we saw throughout these five weeks is something to be proud of, and we’re incredibly proud of each of you for seeing it through.

Meet another member of our Vocational Nursing Faculty! Ira Maceda (LVN) is a Clinical Instructor for our inaugural Vocational Nursing program!

“I’m Ira Maceda, an LVN and Vocational Nursing Clinical Instructor with over 17 years of experience in nursing and patient care.

Throughout my nursing career, I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients in different healthcare settings and, for the past several years, teaching and mentoring future nurses in both the classroom and clinical environment.

What I enjoy most about being an instructor is being part of a student’s journey—from the moment they are learning a skill for the first time to the moment they gain the confidence to care for a patient. I believe nursing is more than medications, skills, and procedures. It is about compassion, patience, respect, and treating every patient with dignity.

My goal as an instructor is to support my students, encourage them when they feel unsure, and help them become safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate nurses. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing what I’ve learned throughout my career and to help shape the next generation of nurses.

Teaching nursing is not only about passing on knowledge—it’s about inspiring confidence, compassion, and a heart for caring. ❤️”
