The Labrys School of Self-Healing Arts for Women and Girls is a project of Associates for Community Education (ACE), a 501c3 non-profit, both founded by Dr. Joan Margaret, in 1995. For five years Labrys School offered a variety of programs, including classes, workshops, playshops,
lecture series, and community events . Every equinox they published The Labrys Speaks, their annual newsletter. Since then Labrys School has been offering services on request, for individuals or groups while keeping the dream alive to reopen when the time is right. THE PRESENT
At this time and age the world and the universe needs women to come out and step up in ways small and big, Creating a home, a community, a country, a world, aligned to eternity’s intent, seems to be in the hands of women, more than ever, now. To honor this responsibility, choose our work and walk our paths, be it as a dreamer, healer, teacher, activist, lover, mother, and more from a place of love, dignity and choice, first we need to be solid in our own self. Ability to be your chosen self and do right by what you value, comes from self-reliability in matters of your own physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellness. And all of us can learn how to do that, specially in a safe women only community space. It time for Labrys School to reopen! More so with Siren Project, joining in the efforts. Founded in 2011, by Roke Noir, Siren is an All Women Wellness Arts program with a vision similar to Labrys, that has been actively offering group workshop series, social and cultural events and feminist festivals of transformative arts. Siren has been looking for a fiscal sponsor. Faced with the opportunity to reopen Labrys School, as it’s Director, Roke decided to fold Siren Project within the school. Her aim is to unite the resources of both these organizations to focus on the one-and-only self-healing arts center, dedicated to women and girls. We are dedicated to offering transformative, educational and creative programs, to help women and girls gain inner knowledge of their holistic self. Through individual and interactive work in groups, we invite our students to gain skillsets to heal, grow and empower themselves. Our goal is that each of us be well and happy enough to be vibrant participants and change makers in our local, national and global community. TO CONTINUE
We need help from the community, to continue and enhance our work and be able to offer our healing programs to women, diverse in age, race, income and lifestyle. We are determined to get to a place where we can offer these programs for free to women who need them the most but can’t because of financial challenges. Till we get to a place where we have grant funding, we depend on the generosity of each one of you, who believes in the vision of Labrys. We are preparing for you to be a much respected Labrys Patron, in ways that best suit you, as a Donor, Business Sponsor or Community Partner. But if you can make a gift towards our $6,000 reopening cost, we will appreciate it. Please let us know if you want to see our Budget and Financial Projection. To make a tax-deductible contribution to the school, write a check to ACE with "Labrys School" in the memo line, and mail to ACE at 6536 Telegraph Avenue, Suite A102, Oakland CA 94609.
