A.S.C.A.C. Western Region The Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC)

ASCAC culminated in 1984 with the first national meeting at Los Angeles Southwest Community College. Strong scholars from all over the country came together to form this umbrella organization designed to build African-centered study groups and further strengthen existing African institutions. This group gained the reputation as the clearing house for anyone researching African History because of its heavy emphasis on academic scholarship. The original purpose of ASCAC was to provide African scholars a forum to develop a body of knowledge to contribute to the rescue, reconstruction, and restoration of African history and culture. With this came the intention to build African centered study groups within the local community to strengthen existing African-centered institutions on university campuses. Study groups have been a proven method to help the African Community learn of its origins from the greatness of Africa and her true story.
