Middle School is a time of remarkable growth, and today's promotion celebrated just how far our 8th grade students have come. Through new experiences, meaningful friendships, and moments both big and small, they have helped shape a community that will always connect them. Congratulations, Class of 2030. We can't wait to see where your journeys lead next!
Head-Royce School
Head-Royce School is a diverse K–12 community nestled in the Oakland hills that serves families seeking a transformative educational experience.
We cultivate lifelong learners who lead with character, intellect, and creativity.
Today marks a meaningful new beginning for our 5th graders as they celebrate their journey through Lower School and look ahead to Middle School. They move forward with curiosity, compassion, confidence, and so many memories from this chapter of their lives. The road ahead is still unwritten, and we know they are ready to meet it with purpose, joy, and courage. Congratulations, Class of 2033, the rest of your story is waiting.

What can happen when creativity, teamwork, and a pile of lumber come together? Big Build. Over the course of the project, students in grades 2 through 5 worked with a dedicated group of seniors to design and build go-karts, bridges, catapults, yoga ball tracks, and more! Along the way, they learned how to problem-solve, take risks, and work through challenges together. The structures may have been the final product, but the lessons in collaboration and community will last much longer.

A little reflection, a little rhythm, and a lot of shared moments on South Campus. Last week, 7th grade students presented their social justice projects, sharing research, ideas, and conversations around issues that matter. Upper School students enjoyed tacos sponsored by the Family Association while students in Dance Class performed to music created by the Spanish Electronic Music class. From meaningful dialogue to joyful celebration, these events reflected the many ways students learn, lead, create, and bring campus to life.

This past Monday, our community came together for the 1st Annual Head-Royce Walk/Run/Roll FUNdraiser for Spinal Cord Injury Research. Led by our Upper School Cross-Country and Track Teams, the event brought more than 200 people to the Athletics Field in support of an important cause.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the event has raised over $30,000 so far for research initiatives at Craig Hospital: Neurorehabilitation Center Colorado. A heartfelt thank you to our student leaders, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this first-year event such a meaningful success.
When the stage lights come on and teachers trade their classrooms for the stage, you know something special is about to happen. The second annual Teachers Got Talent Show brought faculty and students together for an assembly full of creativity, courage, laughter, and the unmistakable spirit of our HRS community. From unexpected talents to unforgettable performances, the show was a joyful reminder that the people who inspire our students every day bring so much more than academics to campus. Thank you to all of the performers who made this year’s show one to remember.

From the Head-Royce campus to Yoshi’s stage, our student musicians lit up one of America’s most iconic jazz clubs. Caravan and Colla Voce filled the room with incredible music, energy, and joy as families, friends, and the wider HRS community gathered for a memorable evening of live performance. Members of the professional community choir even joined in for a special number, adding to a night that celebrated the talent, spirit, and community that make music at Head-Royce so special.
We’re still thinking about this year’s prom, which transformed Oakland’s Terrace Room into A Night in Paris. Juniors and seniors spent the evening celebrating together with music, dancing, and no shortage of great prom looks. From candid moments with friends to a packed dance floor, the night captured so much of the joy and connection that define our Upper School community.
