This week, our Middle Schoolers stepped off campus for their first Community Engagement Day of the year, putting our values into action and making meaningful connections across our community.

From sorting food for the ACCFB and Marin Food Bank, gardening at Pollinate Farms, sharing music and games with elders at Center for Elders Independence, cleaning up with Urban Compassion Project, and creating art with buddies at Achieve Academy and Glenview Elementary, our students discovered how even small acts can make a difference.

Developing students of character is central to our mission, and experiences like these are an important part of that work. We're proud of our Jayhawks for showing up and making a difference!

Did you know that before the ballers of Ballhalla (let's go Golden State Valkyries!), there was the all-female basketball team for Miss Head’s School for Girls? (The school would later become Head-Royce.) In 1892, they played the first basketball game ever played between women anywhere, resulting in the defeat of the University of California team by a score of 4 to 3. Game recognize game!

Last week’s All-School Fair brought our community together for an afternoon of games, laughter, and tons of Jayhawk spirit!

Upper School students transformed campus into a playground of creativity and friendly competition, running booths with face painting, ring tossing, mini golf, potato sack races, and so much more. Lower School students and their families took on the games, collected prizes, and made the most of every ticket.

Thank you to the students, families, and everybody who made this beloved tradition such a special day.

The competition was frightfully fierce for our first-ever pumpkin-carving contest during our “First Friday” event on South Campus. The classes of each Upper School and a few of our PC members went head-to-head to see who could carve the most creative 🎃 🎃 using mystery items and other crafts to conjure something cool. Our three judges—Picky Ricky, Tania The Couture Carver, and Gourdgeous Judgey D—left no detail unnoticed. Congrats to the 11th graders who claimed first place and the coveted Golden Pumpkin!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. David Enelow, who retired at the end of the last school year after an extraordinary 50 years teaching Upper School English at Head-Royce. Half a century. Generations of students. Countless books, films, conversations, and lessons.

David was truly a Head-Royce legend. From his first school photo at Head-Royce to his unforgettable rendition of "The Canterbury Tales," we’re sharing a few glimpses of a remarkable 50 years—and remembering a teacher whose influence on this school and the people in it is impossible to measure.
