Join us for a dynamic day of interactive displays, hands-on workshops, student panels, and fiery ignite talks—all led by Bay Area educators.

Agency by Design Oakland, in collaboration with , and are gathering educators, artists, writers, and community members to celebrate the powerful ways learning spaces can be reimagined.

Come get inspired by real stories of educators addressing complex challenges—and leave with ideas, energy, and community to build more joyful, loving learning environments for young people.

Henna, as it is called in the SWANA (Southwest Asia North Africa), or mehndi, as it is referred to in South Asia, is an ancient and modern practice that commemorates religious events, cultural celebrations, and momentous occasions.

Many often do not understand when it is appropriate to do henna, and will end up inadvertently participating in cultural appropriation. For educators, it’s important to connect with our students culturally by understanding these nuances.

This workshop intentionally coincides with the end of Ramandan, a month-long Islamic practice of strengthening connection with Creator through fasting and prayer. The end of Ramadan includes a three-day celebration called Eid al-fitr, and those who observe will often do henna to celebrate.

Bring your family, kids (8 years old and up), and friends to practice designs from various parts of the SWANA and South Asian regions, and leave with a design of your own. All materials will be provided.
