California Curriculum Collaborative

California Curriculum Collaborative Independent reviews of instructional materials and guidance on curriculum adoption, specifically for California school districts.

In California, 31 math programs and 30 ELA/ELD programs have been adopted by the State Board of Education. Districts are also permitted to select ”off-list” materials. In the midst of this multitude of options, but with limited information about the quality and alignment of each program, how do districts make the right choice of instructional materials for their students? Districts are investing h

uge amounts of money, educator time, and resources to identify the right material. The California Curriculum Collaborative, a project of EdReports.org and Pivot Learning, provides independent reviews of instructional materials for use in California classrooms, in addition to guidance on the California curriculum adoption process and support in aligning district priorities with curricular and budgetary regulations. These resources have been developed or tailored to specifically support California districts in selecting and adopting the highest-quality instructional materials aligned to local goals and student needs.

County Spotlight: How Colusa County Is Helping Districts Rethink Math Piloting

As districts across California prepare to pilot new math instructional materials, Colusa County Office of Education is showing what planning for a meaningful pilot can look like. In partnership with CalCurriculum, county leaders helped districts move beyond simply "testing" curriculum by designing pilots that generate meaningful evidence, align with instructional priorities, and support stronger long-term implementation.

Discover the key questions, planning strategies, and collaborative practices that helped every participating district build a customized pilot plan, and learn how your district can apply these lessons to its own instructional materials adoption.

Whether you're just beginning to explore options or narrowing down final contenders, this resource works to bring greater clarity, transparency, and confidence to your math adoption decision-making process.

Meet the Math List Hub!
The hub supports district and school administrators who are early in the adoption process by providing filtering and comparison tools for approved California math programs, using transparent, HQIM-aligned information.

With the Math List Hub, you can:
- Filter by categories such as grade band(s), digital/print format, LMS integration capability, and language availability to narrow your list of potential programs to the features most essential to your adoption needs.
- Utilize the additional comparative tool for side-by-side review of curriculum options.

"Researchers and experts increasingly agree about the role of curriculum materials in improving teaching and learning. With evidence that implementation of content standards in the classroom is less than desired (e.g., Kaufman et http://al., 2018b; Opfer et http://al., 2018, Polikoff, 2021), and given the complexity of the newest generation of college- and career-ready standards, there has been growing attention to curriculum materials in both policy and research. For instance, organizations like EdReports have sprung up to rate the quality and alignment of curriculum materials, and states have conducted their own curriculum materials reviews and have incentivized the adoption of better-rated materials."
