Specials for the week of: Oct.19-23, 2026
Monday- Cooking: Today we will read:”The Legend Of Spookley The Square Pumpkin” by Joe Troiano and then we will make an edible Spookley. We will spread orange frosting on a square graham cracker, add a raisin as the stem and create a face using mini chocolate chips.
Tuesday-Music & Movement:Today we will get in the Halloween spirit when we sing and act out Hap Palmer’s “Witches Brew
Wednesday- Read & Create:Tonight is Back-To-School Night 7pm.Today we will read a St. Albans Favorite : “Big Pumpkin” by Erica Silverman.Then we will bake a special treat for all of the parents that attend.
Pumpkin Bars:
4 eggs 2 tsp baking powder 1 ⅔ cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon 1 cup oil 1 tsp salt
15 oz can pumpkin 1 tsp baking soda 2 cups flour
Heat oven to 350. Beat eggs, sugar, oil and pumpkin until light and fluffy. Stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and baking soda. Add to the pumpkin mixture and mix. Pour into an ungreased 15x10x1 jelly roll pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and frost with cream cheese frosting if desired. Frosting is made by beating 8 oz cream cheese (soft), ½ cup butter (soft), 1 tsp vanilla and about 1-2 cups of sifted powdered sugar (gradually added to taste).
Thursday-Physical Education:Today we have a choice of some Halloween inspired games.
SPIDER WALK RELAY:Have children do a spider walk, by placing their hands and feet on the floor and lifting their bottom off the floor.
HALLOWEEN FREEZE DANCE: Instead of musical statues do MUSICAL SCARES--
where the children get into a scary pose whenever the Halloween music stops.
WITCHES BROOM RELAY: The child will ride the broom to their team mate on the other side of the room and then the team mate will ride it back. We will continue until all members of the team have had a turn.
WITCHES BROOM SWEEP: The child will sweep a small pumpkin across the floor to their team mate on the other side of the room. Then the team mate will sweep it back to the other end.We will continue until all members of the team have had a turn.
WHO IS THE GHOST?
One child leaves the room and one child in the room puts a sheet over their head. The child who comes back in the room tries to guess who the ghost is.
Friday- Science and Social Studies: Fall is in full swing so today we will go on a nature walk and collect fall nature items and discuss some of the changes we see during the fall. We will place it in our sensory table after the nature walk.We will also be exploring the different colors and varieties of leaves that you found at your home. We hope to learn some answers to the question "Why do leaves change color”? Ask your child to tell you about “Mr. Chlorophyll”.
