Oaktown 8's Square Dancing

Our Tea Dance last Saturday was a HUGE success. We had 5 and 6 squares dancing most of the afternoon - just about all we can fit into Hall 1. Congratulations and thank yous Rich Reel and to all the Oaktown members who contributed to make this event a success.

Club night resumes as usual with Kurt calling SSD (now Mainstream) and Plus tips. Let's keep the momentum and the good vibes going . . .

We'd ALL rather be square dancing this Wednesday. Club night from 7 to 9 pm. Kurt will call SSD and Plus. Jim will give a speech. Anne's shoelaces will match her overalls. Kurt's shirt will challenge us with an indecipherable pun. What more could anyone ask?

PS - Membership renewals have been going very well, but a few members have yet to renew for 2026. Membership costs only $35 and it buys you insurance as well as the club's membership in various national dance organizations, gay and straight. You can renew online on our website; or you can send a $35 Zelle payment to "[email protected]".

We will celebrate the holidays this week with our Annual Holiday Party. Bring a modest gift (unwrapped) for a child at Oakland Children's hospital. Harlan and Ellen will call SSD and Plus to some of our favorite Holiday music. We'll have decorations, refreshments, funny hats and lots of holiday fun. Come join us. It's for a great cause.

Come dance with us this Wednesday to celebrate the graduation of the Indigo Class. There will be processions, diplomas, silly games, and lots of fun for all. Kurt will call lots of SSD, and the students will demonstrate their mastery of all the calls. Also several Plus tips.

HaHa . . . Just trying to get your attention.

But we ARE dancing this week on the day before Thanksgiving with Kurt and Ellen calling. Indigo class students will learn some really cool NEW CALLS. And club dancers will have both SSD and Plus tips.

The weather will be beautiful. You can work up an appetite. And, who knows, maybe an alien or two will show up after all.

Our Halloween party was a big success, with masks provided by Tom, spooky music by Kurt and Ellen, and a visit from Henrietta, our rainbow skeleton mascot. Now Kurt and Henrietta want YOU to dance with us this Wednesday. We'll alternate indigo class instruction with class-level dancing. Let's try to get a good turnout of angels so we can dance 2 squares all evening without exhausting ourselves.

Also, mark your calendars for our new dancer workshop in Union City this weekend sponsored jointly with El Camino Reelers. Saturday November 8 at the Mark Green Sports Center from 12 noon until 2:30 with Dave Decot and Michaell Levy calling. If you don't feel like driving,, we'll be arranging ride shares this Wednesday.
