Subject: The Passing of Keith Welch


Laney Community-

With a heavy heart I share the passing of our beloved Keith Welch, former President of the Associated Students of Laney College, 2018 graduate, and friend. Keith suffered a series of heart attacks this past week and finally succumbed today.

There aren’t words to adequately express my profound sadness at losing such a tremendous light in this community. Keith’s humility and generosity were a beacon of hope. He dedicated himself to eradicating hunger and creating a sense of community on the Laney campus and beyond. Whether he was cooking on the grill and serving food to students, advocating at a board meeting, or participating in a shared governance meeting, Keith’s sole purpose was always focused on serving others. I’m so proud that his legacy lives on in the Eagles Pantry, which he worked so hard to help implement.

As we mourn the passing of this wonderful individual, I am trying to stay focused on the joy Keith brought to every interaction we had. As we learn more his services, I will let the campus community know.

What a gift he was to so many.
