You mean I get to sit in the sunshine and tell stories to infants and toddlers? I love my job 🤗☀️! This week I led two toddler storytimes for AAPI month at the Point Playhouse in El Cerrito. In the adapted story of the young girl Mulan, we learned words like 花huā🌼,马mǎ🐎 and 鸡jī🐔.

Why make Chinese Mother’s Day cards for moms who don’t speak Chinese? Well, not only does it help us practice Character writing, but we can also play teacher as we show our moms the pinyin and English. I did it myself as a beginner Chinese student. Afterwards, we made kik alicha, a creamy yellow split dish from Ethiopia. 😋🤗🇪🇹💐🎉🥰

For our May Mandarin mixer, we had a blast writing Mother’s Day cards, chatting about local restaurants to take our mamas to and whooping each other in Uno. Come out to play more games with us next month. Thanks for having us ☕️
And remember to always “听妈妈的话tīng māmā de huà!” or “Listen to your mama!”💐🤗❤️

For our new cooking unit on Ethiopia, we made sambusa, fried treats with lentil filling. Students had a fun time folding and stuffing the sambusa wrappers 🫘🇪🇹❤️.
