We hear it all the time in schools. It’s one of several “equity traps,” well-meaning statements that can pull attention away from what educators can actually change.

Feeling isolated when designing Adult Learning?
Designing Adult Learning should be a collaborative effort where those receiving learning are at the table with leaders, with opportunities to take part in the decision-making process. At Lead by Learning, we specialize in helping our educator partners establish Distributive Leadership by building their own Design Team. This approach is designed for leaders who are open to learning from diverse perspectives and ready to share power.
Lead Program Facilitator Joseph Brooklyn shares in her article on Design Teams: “By bringing together a vertical slice of the system and celebrating the unique perspective, expertise, and priorities of each individual’s role, a leader can empower their team to collectively problem-solve for continual improvement.”
What are your thoughts on this approach? What do you do to build a culture of Distributive Leadership?

Equity traps often sound like a concern. They can even feel like empathy. But underneath, they quietly shift attention away from what we can control in the classroom.
Recognizing common equity traps is the first step, and knowing how to respond to them with clarity and care —as a coach or colleague—is the skill. That’s what our June 8 workshop is all about.
🌟Coaching for Deeper Awareness: Confronting Equity Traps to Improve Teaching🌟
Grounded in our Supportive Challenge Framework, you'll leave with practical strategies to lead coaching conversations that surface equity issues, center real student data, and build collective commitment to change while strengthening collegial relationships.
Upon completing our workshop, you’ll also receive a Certificate of Completion that can be submitted to school districts for professional development (PD) credit.
