🇺🇸 Honoring a World War II Veteran

VTOT had the privilege of joining the team at Flourish Senior Living for a very special recognition of one of our nation’s World War II veterans.

As part of the presentation, Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township presented him with a VTOT Challenge Coin as a small token of our gratitude for his service and sacrifice. We were also honored to provide him with a complimentary memorial brick paver voucher, giving him the opportunity to have his service permanently recognized at the Veterans Tribute.

Commander John Wake of the U.S. Navy Detroit Recruiting unit also joined the recognition, along with representatives from Oakland Township.

It is an honor to recognize a member of the Greatest Generation and to help ensure his legacy of service is remembered for generations to come.

🇺🇸 Join Us for Patriots Day – September 11 🇺🇸

On Friday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m., the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township invites our community to gather in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Together, we will pause to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, recognize the courage of the first responders and service members who answered our nation’s call, and reflect on a day that forever changed America.

The evening will include:
🇺🇸 The Pledge of Allegiance
📖 A brief review of the events and history of September 11
❤️ An opportunity to share personal memories and stories from that day

Please bring a lawn chair. If you wish, you’re also welcome to bring a cigar and your preferred beverage as we gather in fellowship and remembrance.

Today, we proudly celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence—honoring the enduring ideals of liberty, freedom, and the generations of brave men and women who have defended them.

On this historic Fourth of July, the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township extends our deepest gratitude to our Veterans, Active Duty Service Members, Military Families, and all who have answered the call to serve.

As we commemorate 250 years of our nation’s history, may we continue to remember those whose sacrifice has preserved the freedoms we enjoy today.

Wishing you and your family a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day.

Over the weekend, we were honored to have both a WWII-era Rosie the Riveter and a Korean War-era Donut Dollie in attendance at the VTOT 250th Independence Day celebration. Both women were trailblazers in their time who demonstrated unparalleled courage, selflessness, and determination to serve their country and help secure our freedom for generations to come.

In the absence of our nation’s fighting men during WWII, “Rosies” manned the factories right here in Michigan, riveting and welding airplane components and ferrying confidential aircraft blueprints, strengthening our industrial might on the home front and building the Arsenal of Democracy. DELPHINE KLAPUT worked at Glenn L Martin near Baltimore, keeping track of highly confidential data and aircraft blueprints.

Donut Dollies were women sent by the American Red Cross to lift spirits during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. They provided comfort and helped fight homesickness by serving coffee and donuts, sharing conversation and friendship, and often delivering important family telegrams. JUDY SLATER was Donut Dollie in Korea in 1963–1964, supporting American soldiers stationed along the post-Korean War DMZ. She traveled to field exercises in harsh winter conditions and mud, and later married one of the soldiers she served alongside.

Also in attendance was Rose Davis, a Modern Day Rosie and the original torchbearer of MI Torchbearer, who helps educate and ensure the legacy of the Rosie the Riveters lives on for future generations.

What an Incredible Celebration of America’s 250th! 🇺🇸

It was a very patriotic day at the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township as our community came together to celebrate 250 years of American independence!

From patriotic music and military vehicle displays to family activities, the Kids Passport Challenge, delicious BBQ, and plenty of smiles, it was a day filled with patriotism, fellowship, and gratitude. It was wonderful to see veterans, families, neighbors, and visitors of all ages celebrating together while honoring those who have served our nation.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event such a success. We are especially grateful to our volunteers, our generous sponsors, the Rosie the Riveters, and Donut Dollies for leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, our vendors, performers, everyone who contributed their time, and of course the U.S. Coast Guard for the thrilling flyover. Your commitment made this celebration possible.

As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we’re reminded that our nation’s greatest strength has always been its people. Thank you for helping us honor our past, celebrate our present, and inspire future generations.

It’s finally here! This Sunday we gather at the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
