We would love to purchase horse stall mats to cover this cement pad at a cost of approximately$50 a mat, we feel like it is a much safer option for the children to play on. We currently have $400 in savings from past families who have contributed and are wondering if there are fundraising options or if people would simply like to make a contribution to this effort. It would cost approximately 3500 to cover the whole area. What do you think? Do you think private programs such as ours should do fundraising events or keep saving for one day very far away?

Playfully Ewe Children’s Place is still looking to add a sub to our staff. This position would be about ten hours a week. Some weeks it may be more. Qualifications are a love of children and their learning through play. You will need Pediatric First Aid and CPR with AED. You will also need Basic Child Care, Mandated Reporter training and Infant Safe Sleep. I will help you set up your account for the training. The days are somewhat fixed according to when I have class. This semester I would need you on Tuesday morning 9-12 and Thursday from 9:30-4:30. There may be some Friday's also. If you are interested please send me a message with your phone number and I will get back to you with more details. This would be a long term position perfect for someone looking for just a little something extra.

It has been a very long time since we have posted here, hopefully we can improve on that. Honestly this last winter after posting a beautiful series of pictures highlighting the wonders of birth and the delight of seeing it through a child's eyes, someone... somewhere out there turned us in for unsafe environment for children. We did NOT get a correction order, our licensor understands our program as do the families of the children who attend. Needless to say we have been a bit salty about it, we may even still be. We are so thankful for the confidence our families have in our care and the environment their children have to play in. We agonize over which photos to share, I honestly have taken very few since that day. It's sad that someone who doesn't know our program feels the need to go around us when they could have simply reached out and asked us...how do you keep the children safe? That person stole a piece of our program that day and we are reclaiming it.

We would like to give a heartfelt Thank You to the anonymous donor who gifted the child care programs in Oakes(including ours) with a delicious box of fruit. We certainly appreciate the thoughtfulness behind this donation. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed! 💞🍎🍐🍊💞

What's the Hurry?

"I wish children could grow according to their natural pace: sleep when sleepy, wake up when rested, eat when hungry, cry when upset, play and explore without being unnecessarily interrupted; in other words, be allowed to grow and blossom as each was meant to." - Magda Ge**er

"Anxiety and panic attacks are both on the rise, and not only for stressed adults, but for stressed children as well. The pace and demands daily living are too often beyond manageable for our children's nervous systems. Now could be a good time to stop, breathe, and reassess. Childhood is too precious to speed up."
- Pennie Brownlie

LONG post alert
We have recently purchased a new app which does a great job of explaining the learning that happens through play. We do not believe in pushing children to learn via the methods of worksheets or adult driven crafts or tasks. We will admit to not doing enough to help educate others about the importance of PLAY...children only have one chance at childhood...it is up to the adults in their life to make sure they enjoy it as only a child can...ps...who knew raking grass was filled with learning opportunities that meet the "standards" that many think are best met through a teacher led curriculum.
The app then explains the learning that happened while the children were playing. We posted that in the comments below.

To most this child is “just” riding bike but when we dig a bit deeper, we see it is so much more.

When children ride bike they are enhancing their motor skills. There’s peddling, steering, and balancing… this is developing her coordination skills and gross motor skills.
She is improving her cognitive development, which will improve her ability to focus. (Most say that children who ride their bikes to school are more focused and ready to learn).
She is increasing her self-confidence, and will be more likely to do it again, or engage in other “risky” play.

This is the beauty of child-led, play based learning… her brain is soaking up all of this good stuff… and she thinks she’s just playing.
