Fourteen years in special education classrooms taught me a lot. But the thing that stuck with me most wasn’t a strategy it was watching parents walk into IEP meetings feeling like they didn’t belong there.
They did. They do. They’re the experts on their own kid.
That’s the whole reason AdvoKids exists. Not to replace parents in the room to make sure they never feel alone in it again.

Accommodations vs. modifications. Most parents have heard both terms in an IEP meeting and nodded along without really knowing the difference.

Here’s the simple version:

An accommodation changes how your child accesses learning. The expectation stays the same.

A modification changes what your child is expected to learn. The standard itself shifts.

Neither one is better. Both exist because every child learns differently. But knowing which one is being used, and why, matters. In some states, it can even affect your child’s diploma track down the road.

You deserve to understand exactly what’s being decided for your child, every time.
