🏴‍☠️ This school year, our staff is setting sail on a new adventure with Teach Like a PIRATE! On Wednesday morning, students and families were welcomed by an entire pirate crew as we kicked off our book study and our commitment to creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences.

Here’s to a year of curiosity, creativity, and helping every student discover their own treasure.

Congratulations to the Atomic Badgers from Mrs. Kidwell’s kindergarten class for making it to regionals in the 25-26 TSIN State Wide Design Challenge. Earlier this school year, the class signed up to take part in this challenge surrounding land conservation and were tasked with building a prototype for their community. The students quickly decided that they would build a robot that would help clean up trash on playgrounds. After building two robotic prototypes, the students submitted their “Trash Car” project; a robotic LEGO car they built and equipped with a camera to sense trash. The Atomic Badgers made it through local judging and became contenders for regionals. Although they didn’t move onto state, they were the only Kindergarten class in Oak Ridge Schools to participate!

Today, Mrs. Kidwell and her Kindergarten class got to spend the day learning about nuclear energy. Due to their feature in a Knox News article back in November, they were invited to visit AMS in Knoxville, and Roane State Community College. Dr. Hashemian, CEO of AMS in Knoxville, invited the class and their families to come tour his nuclear facility as well as take part in some hands-on activities to understand the science behind nuclear energy. In the afternoon, the students then went to Roane State’s campus in Oak Ridge and tour the nuclear technology labs. There, the students were able to investigate the technology that is used to surrounding nuclear energy, including the robotic dogs and why they are necessary in the nuclear field.
