Turning crime scenes into data this week!

Our NFA students learned this week how to conduct detailed scene surveys and use multiple advanced scanning technology to capture crime scenes for accurate 3D reconstruction and documentation.

From the scene to the digital model, these tools help investigators preserve details that might otherwise be missed.

Week 3 is in the books!

Things got a little more hands-on in the lab this week as our students worked on latent print development, mixing processing solutions and using different techniques to reveal prints for photographic documentation.

From invisible impressions to documented evidence, our students got to see and practice the science behind the process firsthand.

Would you rather develop the print or photograph the final result?

10/02/2026

Invisible prints? Not for long.

Week 3 had our students in the lab developing latent prints, mixing chemicals, and turning hidden evidence into something they could see, document, and analyze.

This week, we’re highlighting the training and expertise behind the work of our Crime Lab.

All three of our full-time Crime Scene Investigators have completed the National Forensic Academy at the University of Tennessee, which is an intensive 10-week, hands-on training program focused on the identification, collection, and preservation of evidence. It also includes course work at the UT Anthropological Research Facility, better known as the Body Farm.

That training helps prepare our investigators to carefully process crime scenes, preserve critical evidence, and help turn what is left behind into answers.

We’re proud of the professionalism, dedication, and integrity they bring to every case they work.

Happy National Forensic Science Week!

This week, we want to give a special shoutout to the incredible people who drive this work forward every day:
