cinnamon + honey šŸÆ Woah!—For more than 105 days this year, I have thrived without consuming any deep fried foods, nor any bread, rice, corn, or tortillas.

At this point, I don’t have all that many cravings for any of it. My body is settling quite nicely into the habit of simply avoiding them.

However, at the end of the first 75 days I hadn’t quite shaken the cinnamon sugar craving.

The morning of the 76th day this year, I sped as fast as I could to after dropping off OG…But I was too late.

They were ALL out of apple fritters!

I had held off my craving for months and couldn’t wait any longer. So I ended up ā€œsettlingā€ on the next best thing still available, a cinnamon roll and a cinnamon twist.

I couldn’t decide on just one.

I walked next door with bag in hand eager to grab a cup of coffee before heading to the office.

Embarrassment set in as soon as I heard my name being called…

I had already consumed EVERY single bite of the deep fried cinnamon sugary dough in the short moments it took for my drink to be made.

I was covered in sugar particles.

They tumbled all over the floor as soon as I stood up to grab my drink.

Interestingly enough, 30 days further down the Journey, it’s a completely different story.

As I complete of the Program, I’m not planning on binging any indulgences. I plan to keep my chosen diet on track for the most part, say 90% of the time.

One morning and I were having brunch at , and the cinnamon + honey šŸÆ latte caught my eye. I jumped at the opportunity to try something new.

From the first sip, I fell in love. 🄰 This was likely due to my strong connection to cinnamon sugar bread.

What’s great is it doesn’t have any sugar, artificial sweeteners, or bread products, and isn’t deep fried!

In my estimation it’s much healthier. It is now what I look forward to in the mornings, without feeling as guilty, bloated or embarrassed.

PRO TIPS:

• Don’t breathe in the cinnamon powder.

• Order matters (Mix the local honey in first; then add cinnamon powder; then add the frothed milk/half & half; then add another dash of cinnamon powder on top)

Monkey See…Monkey Do—OG sees what’s happening around her and is hyper vigilant. It’s hard to pull a fast one over her, like take her stuffed animal ā€œbabiesā€ away from her without her noticing.

In public her curiosity is sometimes a bit too aggressive—bending & cocking her neck real hard to check something out. You know the kind of observational behavior that tends to start fights with adults.

We’ve found that she studies adults more than her own counterparts. Even at school, she’s more prone to follow her teachers around, and attempt to help them out with whatever is going on.

She enjoys imitation. hurt herself today and keeled over holding her knee. Not completely understanding what happened, OG did they same thing as best as she could.

We’ve got to be careful what we allow our children to observe.

I think it’s important to protect their innocence as long as possible.

I’m thankful she is surrounded by good role models to look up to!

ā€œHilarious Competition….ā€ Despite the AC not keeping up with our recent TX summer heat preview, our latest installment of š—Æš˜‚š˜€š—¶š—»š—²š˜€š˜€ & š—Æš—¼š—®š—暝—±š˜€ā„¢ (š™– š™”š™–š™žš™™š™—š™–š™˜š™  & š™Øš™©š™§š™–š™©š™šš™œš™žš™˜ š™¢š™–š™Øš™©š™šš™§š™¢š™žš™£š™™ š™œš™–š™¢š™š š™šš™š™„š™šš™§š™žš™šš™£š™˜š™š) was a HUGE success.

The positive feedback & reviews from participants came in fast and on fire!

The review highlighted below speaks for itself, but I think it captures some of the magic that exists at the intersection of a business mastermind colliding with board games.

ā€œBusiness & Boards was a fantastic way to explore the next direction I should take for my growing business. Meeting other business owners, business coaches, and likeminded professionals, amid so much laughter and jocularity, was exactly what I needed. What happens when you put a room full of entrepreneurs together with board games? Hilarious competition!ā€ — Andrea Robinson

I couldn’t have made this last installment such a glowing success without the support of Brian Weaver with focal point coaching and Benny Austria of Payed Processing. They both helped me take it to a new level. I’m looking forward to their continued support as this becomes a regular occurrence.

If you’re a business owner/entrepreneur and have been in the game for over a year, it’s likely you’d fit right in! If you would like to participate in the future, please fill out an application at: www.Business-Boards.com.

As it was pouring sheets of water earlier this week, I had a flashback to a recent observation of another natural phenomenon—Niagara Falls.

While it’s been a bumpy ride over the past couple of weeks & months on the business side, the practice of law has actually been an exhilarating ride.

Taking a ride over these iconic falls…
hands straight up in the air…
is probably the best way to describe what it has felt like…(assuming we take ALL the physical injuries out of the equation).

Thinking through what’s occurred on this wild ride, ushered in a wave of gratitude for my supportive wife & my more than capable staff who have helped make all these great things happen in short measure.

1. We had the honor of saving two different business clients obtain favorable outcomes—avoiding the onslaught of litigation prospectively. āš–ļø I’m slightly disappointed I didn’t have the opportunity to get my BIG guns out. No, but in all seriousness I was very impressed with the professionalism displayed by both sets of opposing counsel. Neither of them put their ego/paycheck over their client’s interest. šŸ’ŖšŸ»

2. We blazed our way through a couple weeks with back to back Estate Planning Wisdom Sessions (Education & Setup) & Signing Ceremonies šŸ–‹without incident.šŸ”– I’m proud to say our drafting team is energized & firing on all cylinders. Bring it on! āŒØļø

3. We are gearing up to provide our Trusted Advisor Services for our Business & Estate Planning clients (in a couple ā˜€ļøiconic locations OUTSIDE of TX), which might require some pretty neatšŸ–business trips⛰–hopefully in the near future. Our clients couldn’t wait for the optimal weather to come to fruition so we went ahead and established a fruitful relationship with competent local counsel to help us carry out our mission directives.

If it gets any better than this, I doubt I’ll ever ā€œretireā€ from the practice of law, even if the majority of my income comes from other sources in the future. Cheers to many decades of helping keep you, your family and business in tune with what you care about!

My pilgrimage to Gibbs street this past week was long overdue. While it certainly was a blast from the past, I am especially grateful that my brain could still recall so many of those important memories. It’s amazing how many of my life lessons are attributed to experiences acquired & accumulated only within a few city blocks.

It felt great to reconnect with & take part in the celebration of a man that has impacted my life so positively—Prof. Steven Daigle.

However, I do regret not taking a good portrait of him this weekend so my glorious image of the Eastman Theater will have to do. We spent quite a bit of time together there back during our production of Manon (Spring 2011).

The following excerpt from Candide certainly embraces what he made happen as a director and mentor:

ā€œLet dreamers dream…we’ll do the best we know…and make our garden grow.ā€

for the full excerpt from his retirement statement, the litany of productions he directed, and a couple of fun images from Notes. It’s crazy to think it has been over a decade since I’ve had to glue on a beard.

I remember he had a subtle way of pushing me to the edge, and essentially gave me a free license to go as far with my portrayal & embodiment of characters as I felt comfortable.

His supportive leash was quite long because I don’t remember very many times being reeled me back into the traditional fold. Most of the time when I thought I had gone too far he would say something like, ā€œthat was good.ā€ Or ā€œDo like that again.ā€ His supportive counsel & advice often comes to mind, even to this day, when I’m crafting my singing commercials for or working on creative projects. While he is stepping away from the academic realm and seizing the opportunity to retire, I’m confident (based on what I heard and saw this weekend) that his impact on the transformation of Eastman’s Opera & Theater Department will continue for decades to come.

LEW is NINETY-TWO–there are some people that sear such a positive impressions on your life, even though only in your life for a mere fraction of its entirety.

Lew is one of those members of the Rochester community I have truly missed.

I had the pleasure of singing with this man at a local synagogue for a special concert, then at their high holiday services. While I’d like to think my performance & work ethic alone gave me the opportunity to return year after year, but I believe Lew had some sort of pull with the powers that be.

He was generous & supportive enough to push me to audition for what I can only describe as the best church job in the city. Somehow I landed the position. Come to find out he was the musical anchor of that ensemble and we had great fun singing in harmony together. Sometimes I was the only tenor, him the only bass—balancing out a flock of women. It was always a pleasure to sing with & for him. He always had the most fascinating stories to tell during breaks.

Over the past decade I’ve occasionally thought of him, wondering how he’s doing. . . wondering if he’s still kicking it. Well, by golly he’s jolly as ever! As we were leaving I was thrilled to see him loitering in tails with his wife and daughters. Come to find out he was actually on stage singing with the .school chorus & philharmonia! When I’m 92, I can only hope to be like Lew.

I read five books in the first 75 days of the year while completing for the second time. This go round I chose ALL the right books to read.

I was actually eager to read my 10+ pages. I can NOT say that for my first attempt or the last go round.

There were only a couple of days I only read the minimum. would look over and askā€¦ā€are you NOT done reading?!ā€

For the most part I had already completed with the minimum requirement but was blowing past it because I wanted to get closure on the story being told or idea being shared.

Every selection contained something I needed to hear. And they weren’t filled with fluff nor did they contain sections without a purpose.

I was impressed with the amount of nuggets or takeaways I gleaned from these books. We’ve already implemented quite a bit, but it’ll take the rest of Q2 to fully implement everything I learned.

One of my team members spoke up in our Monday morning team meeting and said, ā€œā€¦so when are we going to do thisā€¦ā€ while pointing to a missing component of one of the suggested frameworks.

2022: how it started (swipe—>) how it ended… I’m eternally grateful for this team of dedicated professionals helping me navigate unprecedented growth .

We had positive growth in all areas of our practice (business & estate planning + probate & pre-litigation services).

This past summer, we made the tough decision to downsize our litigation docket down to zero, and in Q4 saw a sizable uptick in our probate court docket.

We onboarded two new team members, and both have proven themselves extremely valuable to the firm’s trajectory & growth.

We moved our headquarters down the street and hosted 4 interns this summer.

I’m confident we have finally laid a strong foundation of understanding & processes to help 3X the families & business owners in 2023.

For the first time since I founded the firm, we have a full calendar of business & estate planning sessions scheduled in the month of January.

We still have seats available at our upcoming Wisdom Workshops (go to winewills.com & whiskeywills.com to RSVP)!

Do Difficult Things—for OG that’s, lifting two empty milk jugs while running around in socks… or walking down our sloped concrete driveway/on the prickly grass and multiple leveled surfaces out back.

For me, it’s walking miles in a torrential down pour wearing a weighted vest while pushing a stroller (with OG having a blast underneath) and listening to a podcast without headphones; or…

balancing OG’s freedom to fall down & explore this world of ours—with—keeping her disciplined & safe (from face planting on the asphalt, as she so wanted to do this morning when I got her out her car seat).

Within the boundaries of safety & freedom, I want her to understand that attempting difficult things is worthwhile and common nature to our daily lives.

One thing is for certain, the Weygandt’s I know are stubborn & tough. I’d like to think I’m no exception but I’ve gotten soft (it’s been particularly hard for me to turn down whiskey 🄃 or delicious cinnamon rolls lately dealing with the positive growing pains at the firm & balancing family life) so I’m doing again.

For 2023, I am focusing on being mentally tough & more disciplined moving forward for the overall benefit to my health & happiness over the long haul.

When we fall down—we get up. We don’t cry or make a big deal about it. We don’t quit. We try again & we grow. We don’t back down when adversity comes our way. We fight another day.

Now, we might observe some frustration, sadness & tears coming from OG. But we aren’t going to feed into the unnecessary fear in her mind or create an anxiety monster, which I’ve seen some anxious helicopter parents project into their children.

News flash, this girl is sweet & spicy—kinda like my favorite beef jerky. Good news: She’s as tough & adventurous as they come. Bad news (for at least the short term): her apple didn’t fall very far from the stubborn tree. And I’ve met my match. I need all the help I can to win the patience lottery.
