Brooks families, it’s time to fuel our students! 💙🤍

The Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School PTO is excited to support Starship Lunch, giving students the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch while helping our school community come together!

🌱 IMPORTANT BEAT Roots UPDATE 🌱

Due to emergency roof construction at Brooks Middle School, District 97 has asked us to adjust all Thursday garden meeting times to **4:30–6:00 PM** for the remainder of the summer season. Please make note of the updated times reflected in our revised newsletter and schedule!

We also want to give everyone a heads up that our June and July Saturday special events may need to be rescheduled depending on construction updates. We’ll continue sharing any changes here on Facebook and Instagram as soon as we know more.

🌦️ WEATHER UPDATE FOR TODAY, JUNE 11th 🌦️
We’re still hoping to gather in the garden TODAY, June 11th, for sign & rock painting, native plant giveaways, and planting fun! However, severe storms are currently in the forecast. If weather prevents us from meeting safely, we will postpone the event until June 18th.

🌱🌞 Join Us This June at BEAT Roots! 🌞🌱

Looking for a meaningful way to connect with your community, spend time outdoors, and help our gardens grow? Come be part of BEAT Roots, an intergenerational community gardening program where people of all ages come together to plant, learn, create, and build friendships! 🌿💚

Every Thursday, participants help care for vegetable and native garden beds while enjoying hands-on activities, creative projects, and community connection.

🌱☀️ Join Us in the Garden This Summer! ☀️🌱

Beat Roots is excited to welcome families, students, neighbors, and community members of all ages to our intergenerational summer garden program at the Brooks Middle School Garden in Oak Park!

Every Thursday throughout the summer, we’ll gather to help care for the garden through planting, watering, w**ding, and harvesting — plus enjoy fun hands-on activities like rock painting, garden stepping stones, salve making, and more.

We’ll also be hosting THREE special Saturday events for the whole family:
🌻 Solstice Celebration – June 20
🦋 Pollinator-palooza – July 25
🥕 Harvest Banquet – August 22

Whether you have a green thumb or have never gardened before, everyone is welcome! Come connect with neighbors, spend time outdoors, learn new skills, and help grow something beautiful together.

The 8th Grade Glow Dance is happening on Thursday, May 28 from 6:00–8:00 PM and we still need volunteers to help make the night a success!
